I guess they'd taste the same, Ruby. I'm thinking smaller might be denser but I really don't know because I've only done the big ones.
When I said small, I meant about the size of a golf ball.. Not the size of a baseball, or tennis ball.. If you don't overcook them, they are very light.. If you overcook them, they become lead sinkers .....
Well I made the matzo balls and just ate 2 in broth. I formed them a little larger than golf balls but they puffed up. I got 5. They taste just like crackers! They are delicious, but they disintegrated somewhat when I cut into them. I will make them again, though. Very tasty!
I don't remember them falling apart, Ruby. Did u follow the directions? Think you should have gotten 12 from one pkg. mine were the size of golf balls after they were cooked...maybe slightly bigger but not much. I know I could cut one into a few bite size pieces and they stayed in tact.
It was a small box. I followed the instructions 2 eggs 2 tbspns oil Mix and rest in fridge 15 mins. form into golf ball sized balls and simmer 20 Mins. I might have put too much oil in since I just eyeballed it. Or maybe didn't form them firmly enough.
Yes, that's the way I remember the instructions Ruby. Guess you have to be very precise in the measurements. They shouldn't fall apart that easily.
I only make my Matzos Balls in boiling water.. Never had problems.. They expand like crazy and that is why I said small balls so you get golf ball size Matzos Balls when cooked..
I had bought a second box, a different brand. I will measure the oil this time, I honestly think I put in too much. I will boil them in water instead of broth like the first box instructions said .
I made a pot of chicken soup today.. The real Jewish way.. I don't have any Matzo ball mix, and I can't get any up here.. the soup was so good, we pigged out on it.. I still have lots left for another day..
My preference is really to have noodles in chicken soup. Even though it has about twice the salt you need for a day, I really like Campbells Chicken Noodle soup. I was making some turkey soup with leftover turkey sometime after Thanksgiving. I put it in the crockpot, and the noodles dissolved while I was at the dentist! These were like eggless noodles,,so hmmm I will not try using those again. The whole thing turned out like some kind of poi or pasty mess!
Not everyone has the time or money to become a food snob. Sometimes a can of Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup. can be the best OTC medicine.
