I notice that the King Arthur diastolic malt is $24 for 4 oz on Amazon (3rd party seller) but $9.95 on the KA website. When I shop on Amazon or Walmart websites, I always try to select Amazon or Walmart as the seller. I am especially particular about food items coming from some unknown vendor.

I did not think of that. But those products (at least some of them) are old data where the Seller has changed.

Do you know how to find/go to a given Seller Page or Storefront? And I just noticed that Amazon.com was listed as one of the Sellers, as you said. I've started paying attention to that for supplements due to the scams out there.

The only way I know to find a seller page is to use the regular search bar or find a product listing from their store and click on the seller name listed under "sold by." As you have found out, the marketplace vendors on Amazon, Walmart, etc. have become the wild west where "Buyer Beware" is the key. They come and go, but thankfully both Amazon and Walmart will generally step in to make things right.

I initially ran right past this part of your comment, and then caught it later.

KA charges nearly $10 for freight, but [obviously] that still saves $4. Just for grins, I played with KA freight charges. Adding (2) 5# bags of flour kept shipping to $10. Running it up to (5) 5# bags of flour took shipping up to $13. That's very reasonable.

I'll have to keep them in mind. The bread flour direct from KA website is $1.50 more than it is from Walmart, but this flour is nearly always out of stock at most of my local stores. (I recently ended up buying Pillsbury bread flour. :() And Amazon has been out of my favorite 00 pizza flour for a while, too.

I really like Amazon, but I am taxed because California has a sales tax @Yvonne Smith. I don't recall if AL has a sales tax so that confused me a bit? It's still better in many ways except for me, clothing, especially foot-wear, forget it. Anything that looks good is polyester, and I've tried getting my boots, even through Zappo "the great" according to some. I have to buy in person, and when (I say when because I'm very hopeful) I move I'll have clothing, and shoe, stores to shop in ;)

One time Amazon messed up on a return I did. I asked to refund to my original payment, which was my Debit Card. They instead gave me a gift certificate. What my part in the screw-up was I didn't pay attention to where my refund went. I bought a couple more things from Amazon, and they just automatically used my gift card amount.

After wrestling with the highest folks I could contact by email, I finally got their attention and was sort of outraged about it. Is that like sort of pregnant :D Anyway, they not only put the whole amount back on my Debit card, they gave me a gift-card in the same amount. 200 some dollars! I guess it sometimes pays to stand your ground ;)
PS I did ask at least twice, maybe 3 times because I was sure they didn't mean to give me the extra. Finally she assured me by phone they wanted me to have the freebee because I guess they thought I might jump off a bridge. I wore my Annie Oakley outfit to give me courage:p

We have tax here in Alabama, too, @Denise Evans ; so that is added onto everything we buy from Amazon, the same as it is for you. Our sales tax here is 9%, so fairly high.

I always ask for the gift card anytime I need to return anything because it is just SO much faster, like in 2-3 hours and you have the gift card, where it would be 2-3 days to have it returned to my bank. It is all the same to me when I replace the item, or buy something else because the gift card is the same as paying for it with my bank card.
I am trying to understand why that was a problem for you ? Amazon has always been great with refunds for me as well, once I called and got a customer service rep on the phone to work the issue out, and I am glad that yours turned out so good for you.

I thought your OP says you didn't have to add in taxes on your purchase? I did finally see that was a super old thread.

I want it back on my debit so I can spend it anywhere I want. I don't want to be locked into spending it on Amazon :)

I looked back to see what you were quoting of mine, @Denise Evans , and it did use to be that we didn’t pay taxes when we ordered on Amazon, but that changed quite a while back, and people have to pay the same tax for online orders as they would in a local store.

I can get KA flours in my local grocery store, but their specialty items are harder to get. Here is a tip; if you sign up for emails on their website they will send a 20% coupon for a purchase over $60. I used one of my "alternate" email accounts and got the discount code, then placed an order for 8 items that came to $71.60. The discount was $14.32 and shipping was $12.95. Score! :D

That was the good old days, when Amazon didn't charge sales tax. Of course we were "supposed" to self-report... LOL.

I forgot to say that during the Covid mess, I could only get "store brand" flours. Honestly, I guess my taste is not that discerning because I could never tell any difference between premium brands and the store brand. I have used many packages of Pillsbury flour over the years, too.

I always use Walmart's brand of flour, but at some point I took the snobby path when it comes to bread flour. I just picked up my first package of KA pizza flour and am curious as to how it will work. (My diastatic malt powder just arrived from Walmart this morning, but instead of having an expiry date out several years, it's only "good" through this December.)

Regarding that coupon/email tip, I already got mine. I was browsing their Gadget section because I don't think I'll use any more flour than I've got before it goes bad. I just threw some out. And you can't freeze the malt powder like you can yeast.

If you have a secondary email you could try it again. :D I bought a couple of unnecessary items... Pizza Dough Flavor and some Espresso Powder. I also got some diastatic malt; I'm glad that is a smaller container because I don't use it much. I had to throw out the last container I bought.

On the Amazon product info page, look to the far right. You should see this...

    upload_2024-1-21_13-16-2.png

This was on the Bear Creek Soup page, so the food item is non-returnable. Anyway, just check the "ships from" and "sold by" to see where it's coming from and who is selling it.
