You know, no one in the "sanctuary" states gave a damn about the border until Abbott started the busses rolling. He is a hero in my book.
Stupid Comcast. All of our services (internet, land-line phone, cable TV) went out around 7 p.m. last night and just now came on. According to the notice I got (which told me to check their website for updates.... uh, and how would I do that with no service???) they are still having intermittent outages. As much as we pay for that crap it really aggravates me. We have one TV that has an OTA antenna, so we could see local stations and a bunch of spanish nonsense.
I had to laugh. I was having issues with my Verizon service being out (internet and cellphone), so called them on my [Verizon] landline. Verizon is getting out of the landline service because of field maintenance costs, so they are aggressively pushing a wireless service that plugs into your corded phone system as a substitute. While I was on the landline trying to find out why all of my wireless services were out, the Customer Service person tried to sell me on ditching the landline and replacing it with another wireless account. You can guess what I said...politely, of course.
Weirdly, I was unable to use my cellphone data hotspot during the Comcast outage which was a major annoyance. I contacted my phone carrier this morning and spoke to a nitwit with a heavy accent and a script; she told me I was out of data which was a total lie so I just hung up on her. Sometimes you gotta know what you're dealing with. I use Mint Mobile which is on the T-Mobile network. I was reading some Reddit posts on the Mint Mobile section. One guy said "Right now I’m stuck in the inept customer service loop of corporate scripts, fake enthusiasm and gratitude, and broken promises." which gave me a laugh. I find it ironic that I can get better "customer service" information from random people on Reddit than from an actual customer service agent. My sister lives in a rural area of south GA. I believe they were moved to that wireless system from their landline. They have been VERY unhappy with that "update."
If I ever get off of my butt and get my electric co-op's fiber installed, I'll do free VOIP and ditch the landline. It will save me some money and still give me a backup should cell service go down. The main reason I even hang on to it is so I can have a non-cell# to put on my grocery store discount accounts.
We keep our landline, but since our internet is over the same line.... We have never had the landline go down except perhaps during the 1996 wildfire that burned everything around. Cell service is pretty reliable here from ATT, but some of the others vary. Some people here have satellite backup, but that can be expensive and is not me. I think I may have posted that the newest Apple phones have satellite capabilities, and Apple announced that using satellite to call 911 is free with those phones in Alaska. I don't know about everywhere else.
Tip of the Day While the cashier is scanning & bagging your items, use that time to find your *#^$# credit card.
I put in an order at Walmart, only 5 items. i seldom order from them for a shipment. This was almost 2 weeks ago, We all had really bad weather so it was delayed. No biggie. So all we delivered except some toothpaste, coming from the mfg, for some reason. Was shown as delivered and picked up. Nope did not happen. Emailed Walmart, they emailed mfg, and they sent email promising to send , Never got - emailed both back, i get email from Walmart... per my request a refund was issued and will be applied to my card ending in ****- um problem is not my card -Sigh I have emailed them both but yet to hear back. Very frustrating. Never again, I never have these issues with Amazon.
That's frustrating, especially the part about crediting the wrong card. The only issue I've had with Walmart is that if the stuff I order is sold in the stores, they automatically process the order in the store and hand-deliver it, even if I place it as a warehouse order. The problem with that is if the stuff I order is not in stock, they deliver something that's "close" without asking first. (I understand that they do not substitute grocery items without calling.) Walmart carries a specific night light that functions as an emergency light when the power goes off. I ordered a few online because they were out at the store...and the store hand-delivered a "similar" nightlight that lacked the emergency light feature. It was when I returned them to the store for credit I was told about this substitution policy.
We had to reorder our last grocery order from walmart three times, due to the bad weather and the icy roads being closed here. It was not just walmart who had problems, either. My little coffeemaker from Amazon, coming UPS, was supposed to be here a week ago, and finally arrived yesterday, and yarn that I ordered last week from walmart is supposed to arrive today. The mailman told Bobby that the post office is swamped with packages that are finally arriving , and they will be delivered late also. Thankfully, it seems like most places have recovered from last week’s storms and cold temperatures, so hopefully, we can just slide slowly into spring now.
Not much of a rant, but my King Arthur Flour order came today. The boxes felt kind of damp and icky but I hope the contents will be OK. Also, some of the specialty flavoring stuff I got expires in March. I hate that since it's the kind of stuff that I will only use a teaspoon at a time. I won't be tempted to order from them for a while.
The large jar of diastatic malt powder I got expires later this year. Prior canisters have been good for 2+ years. I know these are "Best By" dates, but there's no way to proof this stuff.
Will tell you what, Beth, it can turn into a big rant when a product, or more, is found at a grocery store and it had expired two weeks before we looked at it on the shelf. Walmart can be notorious from having expired products on their shelves. And, my ending career was in Purchasing and Inventory Management. I just wonder how often a grocery store checks their shelf inventory for expired items.
I wonder if that stuff would last longer if put in the freezer or vacuum sealed. This is why I hate buying "pricey" spices and stuff. They just aren't worth it in the long run.
