https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=san+francisco+closing+ San Francisco closures make it look like it is becoming a ghost town in the future. I am glad we visited a decade or so ago.
A story about the job numbers being proclaimed, then "revised downward" when no one was looking. 25% of the jobs touted by the administration to show how great things are were later eliminated in a revision released after the news story died down. Also, many of the jobs published are part-time, no benefit jobs replaced full-time, benefitted jobs under Mr. Trump. Story link
Jobs numbers are always padded during the holidays. While "they" are busy taking a bow for the peak in December they are mum about the dip in January. (Or the dip in the white house. )
Been hearing UPS is laying off `12,000 employees. could be the huge hires they had for the holidays...
I hadn't thought of the holiday hires contributing to that number. I just read that the 12,000 layoffs are global, and the job eliminations are anticipated to be among management roles and contractors. I also read that they recently signed a new union contract. The contract includes pay raises for full- and part-time union workers, the creation of 7,500 full-time jobs and the filling of 22,500 open positions, allowing more part-timers to transition to full-time. Sort of mixed messages. They are increasing staffing of the worker bees (those who generate revenue) implying that revenue will increase, while cutting the corporate folks. There was a sidenote that UPS is selling a truckload brokerage business (Coyote) they bought in 2015 for $1.8 billion. Bad timing in making that investment with the Scamdemic lurking around the corner.
Today they are talking about the implosion of main stream media. Thousands being laid off and some companies actually closing. i.e. Sports Illustrated?
The LA Times, once the premier So Cal Newspaper, has laid off more and barely hanging on....So so so so Tragic where our FREE country is.
All of the newspapers everywhere are laying off people because hardly anyone gets an actual newspaper anymore, and everything is online within seconds of the news coming out, instead of a once a day newspaper, or even the television news. That is one of the great things about online news. Like Twitter, people who are on-scene will take pictures and post them, along with information about what is happening. Newspapers in print are just becoming a thing of the past like cameras with film in them.
I guess the men who bought Sports Illustrated for the swimsuit models didn't want to see the "body positivity" (i.e., Fatties) and "tuckers" (transvestites in drag). What a shame, huh.
Will we EVER get our Country back??????????? And I can see and hear it all now, being told by my boss in San Jose, in the mid 80's, how much better it will all be for us... The local san jose people called it Silly Valley and Silicon world took over their city and here we are....
Print media has been on the decline for decades. We may as well bemoan the loss of farriers and buggy whip makers because "cars."
This is true, but a lot has been on the decline, tech got started big time in 50=60's and it's almost like since covid, the declines have been rapid...
I agree with that on both counts, except free economies naturally undergo [generally] healthy evolution. COVID was sabotage.
