You don't have to be anti-gun to be a Democrat. Many Dems I know have guns and shoot and hunt with the best of them. You do, however, have to be pro-abortion to be a Democrat. It has been on the national platform for decades. Gun control is appearing on many state Democrat platforms, so it may make it to the national level soon, but I don't think it is there yet. The biggest group of new gun owners during Covid were Black women, and I think almost all are Democrats. They will put up a fight if they try to take their guns away.
It is interesting that illegals are coming in across the NY border too, now. It is being advised that people get guns. I don't know about gun laws in the state but in the city it will be difficult. A lot of oversight on CiTIZENS.
I think most of the state is gun friendly, at least with regard to shotguns, but it is a Democrat-run state for the most part, as least in the governor's office, so I am not familiar with the current situation there. New York City doesn't even allow a person to carry a folding pocket knife from arrest reports I have read.
On here it is ok, but elsewhere, forewarned is forearmed. Anyone owning a gun should have gun safety course, unless they were raised by legal responsible gun owners. Cody you just put another song in my head, "some folks don't and some folks do"
We had Neighborhood Watch meeting here about 10 years. Sheriff deputy told us that the very best security system you can have is a dog.
I had a sheriff push his way passed me when looking for some criminal in the neighborhood. Got to the family room where hubby and dog were watching tv. If it had been our previous dog, the sheriff would have had to shoot our dog and then I would have had to think about what to do to him.
Mary the deputy said, dog is to let you know somebody is there, the gun is protect you from them. Sounds like you had a good dog, we had some good ones too. Now we have these adopted dogs. Only chance of them hurting someone is if they are standing in the way of an exit, leo jumped thru our screen porch when I just opened the front door. They are better but never will be guard dogs.
For the younger generation, Pit Bulls have become the "choice of protection". However, we had a neighbor in Colorado that had a Pit Bull named Babe and she was so nice. Had absolutely no problem petting her. There are owners of some breeds of dogs that don't want anyone to pet them, because the owners have taught them to be watch dogs.
And that same sheriff deputy has several guns. Reminds me of presidents who also advise people not to own guns......while they surround themselves with armed security personnel everywhere they go.
An oldie but a goodie... ATF Agent Lecturing On Gun Safety Shoots Himself In The Leg (Only Gummint Wurkers Are Prefeshunul Enuff To Have Gunz)
I've taken a couple of such classes and later became an NRA Instructor. The instructor might be armed, but the damned thing stays in the holster.
