Without using their own understanding from the bias of the media or the government, this would apply to these refugees surely?
The bible suggests a lot of things..and it's true Christians endlessly debate but the following verse to me is the bottom line. I don't necessarily agree the United States should take in millions of refugees..but I understand his concern and empathy for the true victims of war. I think it's important to treat each other with kindness and caring. I'm glad we live in a country where church and state are separate. I don't view the Pope as Catholics do...but so what..I respect their right to believe as they choose and we do agree on many things. I honestly don't think our leaders here are going to take his political advice..or any from the Dali Lama as far as that goes.
I think we should be a bit wary of taking literal interpretations of anything in any versions of the bible. Let's take the fourth commandment about graven images, for example. If this had been followed literally, there would be precious little medieval art left to enjoy.
I can see where lapsed Catholics might love the new Pope. Pretty much, he is telling Catholics that they don't have to worry about any of that stuff in the Bible. As long as it doesn't sting their conscience, they are good to go as far as the Church is concerned. If God speaks directly to the Pope, I wonder why he changes his mind so often. Just as he decided how many and which refugees to take into the Vatican, we are left to decide how many and which we take in here, and I don't think we should take any in that have not been properly screened, and we shouldn't take any in that are unlikely to serve a good purpose here.

That is probably true but it's true for most clergy also. Look at Tammy Faye and her husband and Jimmy Swaggart. Talk about ripping people off big time. Anybody can get a preacher degree online, I could too. Then ask for donations and spend it on myself.
I am sure that the pope didn't choose two refugee families at random. It is far easier to screen two families than two hundred thousand, and it's a lot easier to keep track of a few people as opposed to hundreds of thousands. Maybe the United States should follow his example and take in two well screened refugee families, and then keep close track of them.

Yes... I can't, @Gary Ridenour ... I really truly can't understand why the "we have to hug everyone and open the borders" people don't know this... or maybe don't process it. Of course we need to be kind to the needy. Of course we can't turn REAL requests down if someone wants to live here. But the mindset that has a lock-down at "let 'em in" without looking at the facts and the data of what exactly " 'em " is that they want to let in... is maddening. I could, however, go along with @Tom Jordan 's idea... two families.
Somehow... and I may be wrong, but it's my opinion, I think a lot of it has to do with the ridiculously foolish PC garbage that has gotten way out of hand. It's like we wouldn't DARE offend anyone, whether or not they'd rather slit our throats than look at us (eeeew, way graphic, Mari... sorry!) It's been surreal for the last decade or so. Nightmarish. I will NOT sway my head with my blinders on and sing Kumbaya with individuals who would be tickled pink to rid the world of my family. What the devil's it going to take for people to wake up? I don't think it was really hard for the Pope to pick those Refugees since the Catholic Church sent "Missionaries" over there to "christianize" the Muslims, etc. So these are probably a couple of families that they ministered to and who has begun the process of becoming Catholics.
