This bill probably will not pass and may have already failed, but bad legislation usually fails the first couple of times it is introduced. The idea is to desensitize people to the idea so that it can eventually pass. It is human nature to eventually get tired of fighting something. For example, gay marriage failed pretty much everywhere it was introduced the first few times, but those who were opposed to the idea got tired of fighting, so it eventually passed everywhere. Whether this specific bill is gaining traction or not, this time around, it should give us an idea of what the Democrats plan. While this report focuses on church security teams, because that's what he does for a living, it would potentially outlaw any security team that hasn't been authorized by the federal government. From the same guy, this video shows several views from church security cameras and police bodycams during an active shooter incident at a church in Houston, Texas, on February 11, 2024. You may not have heard of it because the shooter was a woman, who sometimes identified as a man, and a wacko-leftist anti-Semite, or it might be because no one was killed (except for the shooter), although the shooter's young son, whom she used as a shield, was badly injured after being shot in the head, and another man was also injured. Since they couldn't call her a white supremacist or a dangerous MAGA nut, the issue became the need for banning guns, as is evident in the Wikipedia article. The film shows several scenes from the active shooting incident and critiques the police response. This was Joel Osteen's church, so there were plenty of security people, seemingly all uniformed police on hand. The shooter walks past one of them, wearing a long jacket to conceal her rifle; he doesn't notice because his head is in his cell phone, probably playing Angry Birds or something. Although the police did manage to bring her down, and no one but the shooter was killed, there were a lot of shots fired while the police mostly hid. I am not sufficiently trained to critique the critique, so I am not offering an opinion on the veracity of what he has to say. As a SWAT medic in McAllen, Texas, I did go through SWAT training, including qualifying with a rifle and handgun, but in practice, in the few incidents that I participated in, we were held back until everything was over. This was a stop-gap role until they could train some of their own officers to become medics, which I also had a hand in. We were invited to go through police training to be certified as law enforcement officers, but I opted not to do that. I was already in my mid-30s and still interested in EMS.
I doubt the churches with security teams would be compliant to any such Federal law. What will they do, monitor every church service? Who are they going to punish, the church, the pastor, the guards, or the congregation/parishioners? Maybe @Tex Dennis has some input as I believe he is involved in such.
We do have state and local laws to go by, our security team locally trains monthly with law enforcement members both inside the building and outside in the parking areas once a month training meetings so far we have been very lucky not to be needed many LEnforcement members are on our team here plus we have a monthly match as well as 1st aid training on non match weekends...
Just like parents at School Board meetings. In Virginia it used to be that you could "just carry" in church. Then the Dems got it changed to "Requires permission of the pastor," as though the government has any say in it.
They want us wholly dependent upon the government for everything, including our lives, yet they have no responsibility to keep us safe.
I am in an argument right now on Next Door with a guy who wants the government to subsidize housing to make it "affordable" while concurrently limiting development. He cannot understand that government is failing its duty by allowing tons of illegals into this nation who are occupying properties, and he wants government to take more of our tax money to make it "affordable." It is insane.
I have heard that White Conservative Christians are now considered to be terrorists, but if that is so, do they think terrorist won't carry weapons because the government makes it illegal? Only the law-abiding non-terrorists will give up their guns.
