We have a lawn tractor,but it won't go far through the woods. Jake has some kind of new little mower trimmer, but I haven't ttied it yet.
I keep telling her that Don, but she says, no way, I would never see you again; except passing by grinning. But she wouldn't have any more pesty vines to pull.
Tractors can be very dangerous in vines. Some tree limbs here are huge and half rotten [from the vines or damage from storms] and can break and fall on you. I don't pull vines from huge tree limbs and very careful even with loppers. I kill the vines from ground up. many will come back but most don't.
I have one of those. We love it and use it mostly around all the fencing. They come with blades that might be better for the vines than the strings for grass and weeds.
Jake ordered the blades too, We did cut a short trail with it once thru high weeds. We have some major black briars near the yard fence covering the bay trees. I need to get to, maybe use that if it doesn't pull them down around us.
Most tractors--all new tractors--have ROPs systems that are very helpful against falling debris as well as rolling tractors. If you spend a bit more, you can get a roof or cab that maybe even more helpful. A big enough machine, and you can have A/C and heat if you want, but that may be more than you want to pay. My wife drives ours as much as I do in the summer, so you might enjoy it as well @Marie Mallery but the decision is yours.
I have one of those as well. It does a lot of stuff, but is not a substitute for a tractor. The DR gets places the tractor can't, however, but it only mows and only in a rough cut. It doesn't lift and carry, or turn over compost, or clear land, or dig. Of course, all that may require attachments and implements but you may find them used in your area.
Don we can't afford a tractor, just ask Jake, he can't even afford 20cent worth of fan use. I already owe him about 75 cent from leaving them on for a few extra minutes.
The decision to purchase or not is between you. My wife has said, however, that the one thing she wishes we had done years earlier was to buy a tractor. I am not trying to persuade you to buy something you cannot afford.
I know your not ,Im just kidding with you. I'll go outside to smoke thinking the fan is on and next thing I know I'm sitting on the porch with smoke. Fan keeps it moving out. But the sock trick is working. I really don't see where we need a tractor, we don't have field planting to prep or road to repair. He has lots of man toys he doesn't even use that much. We had a 1949 Massy Ferguson about 20 years ago, he sold it after he got it running good. Man was so happy to get the old tractor, he rode in the tractor show here.
We do need one, we just have to get one in our price range, we've missed out on a couple already being second.
I finally have all my planter boxes done except one. I still have several tomato seedlings (Cherokee Purple), so I ordered another City Pickers box, plus I will use a few grow bags. I over-planted tomato seeds because I wanted to make sure I got plenty of little plants. That idea backfired because I have about 40 too many that I will have to toss on the compost heap. My zucchini are already blooming! Next project will be planting new shrubs in the front yard (for the 3rd time in 3 years) and adding a new tree in the front. Then we'll need to mulch all of those front beds.
