Jake finally repaired and set up greenhouse, and we have lots of plants in it getting ready yo puy out in spring. Sunflower's are already about 6ft.tall with heads forming, they will now be pot plants. All other potted veggies just waiting till no chance of frost. Greenhouse last month, 6wks ago, We just put plastic doors with screens so we don't trap honey bees and butterflies.
I'll put up pictures in a few minutes. I was afraid to try transplant 6' tall sunflowers since by April they will be even bigger. So hope they do ok in pots. Pictures a couple weeks ago, sunflowers in the right, couple weeks ago, now they are a lot bigger with flower heads already. See cardboard on far right, it is for spring of 2025 lasagna garden if we get around to building it.
it's supposed to get back down into the low 40s in a couple days, but now we have the fan going, its 86 today high is 86 so hot and cold, but that's March in Florida. We had lows in the upper teens several years ago in March. Greenhouse really heats up quick above 70F.Tomatoes don't like it above 80-85 or below 45. Jake just took this picture, [he is not a photographer]. but neither am I. Sunflowers, Sweet potato slips, Tomatoes, bell peppers,a couple other veggies, forgot what they are.
Wow, I'm impressed, @Marie Mallery! Of course, we live in an apartment, so no chance of planting all that here.
Thank you, Jenna, we have been at it for decades but it's getting harder especially on Jake who does most of the hard manual work.
28 years ago, the locals said it was second week in April, today's weather patterns I'm not sure so we still go by that date. Many of these plants we started too late for Florida weather. Usually we would have had them already growing in early winter, But too busy with new dogs, van, truck, etc,.Plus greenhouse was in need of repair.
I found this little garden for apartment dwellers. You couldn't grow sunflowers, but maybe other stuff. Link
LOL, Vada we have our drawbacks here too, like fried tomatoes in the greenhouse without cooking them, or taking a trip and coming home to dried out plants from no water, and on and on.
I think in next couple days we should set out the plants in greenhouse. Leave them in containers except the sunflowers, just plant them in the ground. It's too hot some days to keep using greenhouse. So much going on now it is hard to keep caring for greenhouse.
