Wonder if it was just old and in need of repair, or something else?

I didn't watch the video, but I did read an article this morning that said a container ship ran into the bridge on its way to Sri Lanka, causing the collapse. Baltimore is a very busy international shipping port.

edit to add: I just watched the beginning of the vid. It immediately shows the ship hitting the bridge. It wasn't in need of repair before, but it sure is now.

Your video explains that a container ship hit the bridge, and if you watch the video you can see it happen, @Marie Mallery . Apparently , the ship malfunctioned, and lost control and could not steer the ship under the bridge properly.
Thankfully, it happened during the middle of the night, and not at morning rush hour traffic !

I know but ships captains can be bought off. Did you see how far off course that ship was?
Don't forget who put up thread, a conspiracist.:D

So, the ship just decided to go off course right at the opportune time to destroy the bridge?

Then again mid-day would have been more effective for a crackpot terrorist.

Here's a written article on it.

    From that article:

Authorities say the ship had just left the Port of Baltimore en route to Sri Lanka when incident occurred and was not being piloted by its own crew. They said local pilots are used specifically to avoid such accidents, according to CNN.

The news outlet also reports a puff of smoke coming from the ship right before the crash occurred and that a power failure on the ship appeared to have occurred before it struck the pylon.

Dunno what the real facts are, other than the lives of lots of commuters and Baltimore residents are [even more] screwed for a very long time. Two people were rescued from the water and at least 7 others are missing.

So far they believe it was an accident caused by mechanical failure on the ship. Supposedly there were two harbor pilots on the ship guiding it out of port. Of course everything is subject to change but if you watch the video the lights go out on the ship twice before it reaches the bridge and there are two big puffs of black smoke. It is said the smoke could come from attempts to put the ship into reverse.

It has been said repeatedly that the ship is registered in Sri Lanka. Is that better than China?

Of course I don't know any of this to be fact, I'm just repeating what some experienced people have put out, so I bow to the superior wisdom of DEI and conspiracies everywhere.

Does anyone remember the bridge that went down in Minnesota some years ago? I believe it was on I-35 but that is subject to correction as is everything else in this comment. It was at rush hour and many cars went in the water including a school bus. Thankfully, this happened at 1:29 am. There were workers on the bridge and they and their vehicles fell. I've heard that 2 have been recovered, one uninjured and one in bad condition.

As you can see, it's not a modern concrete structure. It looks more like an Erector Set fabrication where is you twist one end, the whole thing contorts. I read elsewhere that it was built in 1977, FWIW.

I'd have to get out my geography book to see, but is Sri Lanka one of the African areas owned by China?
China seemed to copy our African land grab, remember when MacDonalds and other big biz chased millions of Africans out into the desert so they could graze their cattle?
Used millions of acres of land to graze. As usual, African government was more than happy to ' make a deal' with big biz owned leaders.

Wife and I remember the incident, May 1980, when a ship hit the Sunshine Sky Bridge, by Tampa Bay, Florida. Vehicles, including a Greyhound Bus went into the water. When we visited the Tampa Bay area, we completely avoided going over that bridge. remember a Yugo vehicle being blown off of the top of that bridge when high winds hit the area.

The only thing I know on my own about Sri Lanka is that they make and ship a lot of cheap stuff over here.

    But, I found this....

    Sri Lanka
    Island country in South Asia
    news.lk

Sri Lanka, historically known as Ceylon and officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is an island country in South Asia. It lies in the Indian Ocean, southwest of the Bay of Bengal, separated from the Indian peninsula by the Gulf of Mannar and the Palk Strait. It shares a maritime border with the Maldives in the southwest and India in the northwest. Sri Lanka has a population of approximately 22 million and is home to many cultures, languages and ethnicities. Wikipedia
