We've been using organic coconut oil for some years:
    - for cooking
    - taking off makeup
    - moisturizing (great for softening up and plumping up that elderly skin)

It seems pretty "neutral" to me ... no extra weird "ingredients" that aren't good for you.
    And it's cheap!

I take a tablespoon of it every night in that hot Teeccino chicory drink I have. There are articles on the web regarding coconut oil reducing the risk of dementia. Part of the issue relates to statins reducing healthy fats from our systems.

How long before it is rancid? I think mine is a year or so old. Sits at room temperature.

Opinions on storage are all over the place. I keep mine in the fridge, even though it makes it tough to dig out of the jar.

Yes it is hard to dig out when cold, that's why I set it out several months ago. Its probably ok.

I use a tablespoon and a butter knife, being careful to not jam the knife in too hard...those jars are flimsy. You could always run the spoon/knife under hot water, as you would do for ice cream.

Yes, good idea, I think I'll put it back into fridge tonight.
