Sorry they act like they do, seems not many do what they were hired or elected for. We have the same problem here with leaders and this is rural, but they don't do their jobs either.
Well my raccoon watch is now including the morning dark hours. This morning it was 30 something degrees, wet and dark. I heard a kit whining which means the mother is nearby. I looked out my kitchen window (6am) and sure enough there she was getting ready to take a dump. I grabbed my choice of deterrent and opened the back door only to see her scurry like a bat out of a cave (gotcha!) lol. I hadn't seen any for the past two weeks I've been on raccoon watch at night. I haven't check the bottles either. I must do that and refill.
Ugh, another raccoon story from Reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/Home/comments/1bw98gk/raccoon_tearing_up_new_shingles/
I pray that person reads those responses because there probably is a nest with kits inside and momma ain't gonna stop until she gets them out.
I'd be calling those roofers back to fix the damage done by them covering up that nest, assuming the homeowner did not have a hand in directing the work.
??? Why would that be the roofer's responsibility? They aren't pest control, so they probably just repaired any issues with the sheathing and put down new shingles, which is what they are paid to do. Making sure raccoons have an access point probably wasn't in the contract.
Who knows? There may not be any "kits." That's an assumption but not verified by the homeowner. You'd think he would go up into his attic and have a look-see.
The other night on raccoon watch I heard some clanging in the alley which I peered out the window. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. A raccoon had made its way around all of the bottles of deer urine to a tree and climb up and over and down to the roof of Sculpty then made its way down the honeysuckle tree then down into the yard. My jaw dropped as I watched it standing there probably trying to figure out where it was at . I thought it would continue walking through the yard as they always do but it didn't. It walked to the side of Sculpty and jumped up and over the privacy fence onto the roof of the garage of the vacant house next door. smh. Now I'm one to think 'why?' What was its goal? To me I just seen it go a full circle I got two things from this (1) cover that tree with some flashing and (2) they don't like the smell of the deer urine. Let's do this.
Didn't think of that. I was reading up on using fox urine and I believe that will be a better repellant than the deer because foxes are a predator. Hopefully there are no wandering foxes around looking to mate in the city.
It was my first thought but I didn't want to give any ideas to use the area as a toilet when walking through the alley besides there are enough dirty diapers dragged out by the raccoons so I feel it wouldn't accomplish much.
Fox occasionally eat baby raccoons. Coyote eat adult raccoons, as do wolves. So maybe coyote/wolf pee might be a better choice, assuming raccoon recognize the scent of critters they've never encountered.
