I have a whip-poor-will that has decided to take up residence in a tree right outside my living room window this year. He starts up around 11PM. Persistent little bugger. Tonight he was on the backside of the house on my deck, but I could not get a glimpse. A few years ago he like a tree by the window right at the head of my bed. Part of me found it annoying, while I also liked living in the middle of his environment.
I like the sound of a whippoorwill at a distance, but I don't think I'd like it right outside my window. He's probably singing his love song to attract a mate. If so, he will stop as soon as she accepts his proposal. .....probably.
There is a bush just outside my bedroom at the river. There is a @!$%#@&* sparrow that sits in the bush just before sunrise and starts singing. Loudly. I swear I'm going to take my BB gun down there and shoot him!
When we were kids, we listened to and reacted to the bob White. Sometimes we and the bird would change the 'tune' now and then.
