I shut my computer off whenever I am not planning on using it for a few hours. I don't delete cookies regularly, though.

 

My Firefox did NOT log into my accounts after it Slept and got Woke this morning. I did tell FF to Clear History after closing, but left Cookies and Data alone.

 

Today, we are the topic of discussion on “that other forum”, so we may have new people coming to see what SOC is all about, at least until the Mods there delete the thread. The conversation is interesting, with diverse opinions about our little home forum.

 

It is just called “Senior Forums”, @Hedi Mitchell . It is a larger forum than this one , and has been around since about 2013. They used to have politics there, but had so many screaming fits from people, the owner finally banned anything even close to political discussions, although people still find a lot of things to disagree about, and not always politely.
Many people here either belong to both forums, or have belonged to the other one at one time, and might have been banned over there or just walked out.

 

I'd rather not have other senior forums discussed here, at least not in the public part of the forum. I don't care at all whether anyone here is a member of another senior forum, banned from another senior forum, or leaving here to join another senior forum. Join whatever forums meet your needs. I don't care, but I don't like to feel like we're competing with another forum. In one sense, I suppose we're competing for eyes, but there's no reason why someone can't be a member of more than one forum.

I like getting new members here because we also lose members from time to time, so it's necessary to have new members joining the forum, but I prefer to run this forum as an independent entity, and my goal has never been to become the biggest senior forum on the Internet. I don't read any other senior forums, and while no one enjoys having people talking bad about them behind their backs, there's nothing I can do about what someone says about me or the forum somewhere else, so there's little point in concerning myself over things that I can't control. I barely try to control what people say here, so I'm certainly not going to try to monitor what they might say elsewhere.

We are not in competition with any other senior forum, and neither do we collaborate with other forums. So, if someone is banned from another senior forum, that has no bearing on their status here, except that people generally bring themselves with them when they move. People who are banned from this forum are welcomed back if they ask, and even if they don't ask, I erase bans from time to time.

I want this to be a place where people can enjoy talking about things with other people whom they may or may not know in real life. If your participation here makes you uncomfortable or unhappy, maybe you can find something that better meets your needs elsewhere. That's fine; there's no reason to feel guilty about it.

However, this can often be accomplished by simply not participating in the parts of the forum that might trigger you, which is why we have the Hot Button Issues category separated. Sometimes, however, we take disagreements too seriously. If I'm right, I'm right whether you agree with me or not; otherwise, maybe I'll learn something.
