Reports that Charles Schumer's government-supplied phone has been hacked and AI has been used to create his voice. Calls were made to members of the U.S. Senate supposeldy from Schumer's phone and conversations were conducted that were believed to be confidential. Schumer made none of the calls and it has not been disclosed what was discussed. The FBI and the Senate security is investigating, but further information has not been released.
I was reading about that this morning on Twitter. Apparently, Lindsay Graham was one of the ones who received the messages and thought they were from Schumer. The FBI is supposed to be investigating what happened, according to the news story.
You might be surprised what information you reveal in your conversations. This, however, was apparently some sort of espionage. Lindsay Graham was one of those reporting it. He thought Schumer was calling him, but when he spoke face-to-face with Chuck, Schumer was unaware of any conversation on whatever topic was discussed. I haven't heard how many, if any, other members of Congress were affected. It is not a partisan issue.
Now I have heard that the passport control system throughout the UK was hacked yesterday and shutdown for several hours, stranding travelers everywhere there. Apparently, this system was believed to be "hack proof", so I don't know if it was sir gapped or secured by other means, but it didn't work. I wonder what information was obtained about travelers in the UK?
That is why I don't want cbdc, pix or anything else in the ether. Have you seen the inside of a big plane cockpit? A lot can go wrong. And when someone says something is foolproof, someone out there will take it as a challenge. I have heard the gov't is working on hacking bitcoin wallets for sanctions.
If their application process is like our, and it's on the system, then it's got all the identity theft stuff anyone could ever need.
One of the most useful things is a person's Social Security number. This is not included on your passport, but would be part of everyone's general information.
I was wondering about the passport application data that may be in the hacked systems, not the physical passport. I was going to apply for one once, and it required a bunch of historical family info that I did not have. That's the stuff (mother's maiden name, parents' dates & places of birth), etc that is Identity Theft gold. The application may have SSN. I don't recall.
I recently had to apply for voter ID and the information required included my SSN. Other European countries have ID cards, which makes things much easier. For some reason, British people are against it.
