I just completed a Survey regarding a recent appointment, and there was a set of questions I've not seen before on this subject: >How do you prefer to receive test results? -Phone call -MyChart >Are you open to receiving clinical test results via MyChart as soon as they are available? >If the test results are abnormal, does this change your opinion on receiving clinical test results via MyChart? >Does the idea of automatically releasing all results (normal and abnormal) via MyChart create anxiety for you? The obvious problem is that if you receive results when things are fine, and you don't receive results when things are not fine, then that's going to create more anxiety than just having the bad news.
Good point. At least a notice asking if your life insurance policy is paid up would be a hint that one needs to talk to the doctor.
I really like having the test results on the patient portal. Most of the time, the doctors don’t go over t=lab results unless there is some kind of an issue with some of the test results, but I like to look and compare with how my previous results turned out. Whether good or bad results, I always want them to show up in my online chart.
My GP always does a write up. I've had out-of-range results from my nephrologist, and not only is there never any write-up, when I send in a question regarding test results, it never gets answered. The lack of write-ups is a doctor issue (perhaps he is overwhelmed), but the lack of response to inquiries is an administrative issue with that office.
The medical field is nothing like it was years ago. According to doctors I have spoke with- another reason so many are leaving the medicine world.
