So if you were raped you would have a baby? If you were going to die because of a birth ( and by the way surmising that you already have other children), you would die and leave your other children without a mother?
There could be exceptions in the law if written correctly. But late stage abortions, or any for the convenience of the mother I find abhorrent.
When the life of the mother is truly at stake, abortions have pretty much always been legal when performed by a physician.
This is absolutely true ! Before I was born, my mother was told that she had a growing tumor in her abdomen and it needed to be removed, which would abort her pregnancy. Her doctor told her that if she didn’t do that, she would lose the baby anyway and probably not survive herself, and she needed to have the operation. Obviously, my mother chose not to do that, she asked the doctor to wait as long as possible in the hopes that I could be born alive and developed enough to survive, and that she would also survive to raise me. Since that was just after WW2, it has definitely always been legal to perform life-saving abortions, it is just the convenience abortions that were illegal. However, women died because their only option for an abortion of an unwanted pregnancy was an illegal abortion performed by someone who was not a doctor, and I do not think that this is right either. The determination should be made between a woman and her doctor, whatever the circumstances.
No woman should ever be forced to have a child she doesn't want. No child should ever be forced to be born to a woman who doesn't want it.
