I do the same... read the owner's manual from cover to cover, plus the other "quick start setup" brochures. I have read all my materials but still have to refer back to them or pester people on the Cadillac Forum/Reddit.

I have been using ApplePlay and can use Amazon Prime Music which is nice. At the risk of sounding like a boomer, I have to say that I miss my CD player... I have a crap-ton of music CDs and I really don't like streaming apps. :D:D

I managed to turn off the braking assist BS that is causing a lot of "ghost braking" or phantom braking that is causing accidents and scaring people to death. Just driving along the interstate and the dang car slams on the brakes! Can you imagine?? I set mine to "alert" which gives haptic seat vibrations but no braking, lol.

My Mazda has the ability to play tunes off of a USB stick (meaning I could rip CDs to it), but since I have XM Radio and I don't do a lot of road trips, I've not messed with it. Nor have I tried Apple Play.

The Braking Assist saved my butt just a few days after I got my car. I had my nose in the screen trying to figure things out, when the guy in front of me stopped abruptly. Thank goodness BA was turned on. Lesson learned. Other than that, the only issue I've had is if I come up too abruptly on someone who is making a turn. My car does not like me cutting it close. I've learned to not do that.

I've also don't use the Adaptive Cruise Control when in too much traffic. When someone cuts in front of me and ACC is on, my car abruptly slows down to maintain a safe following distance. In essence, my car "brake checks" the guy behind me. Fortunately, there's not that much traffic in this rural area, even on the interstates. And like all cruise controls, it Pauses when I tap the brake or the accelerator.

edit to add: I used to have an 8 track recorder, so don't feel bad about your legacy CD collection.

I prefer to do my own driving, so I turn off as much of the nanny-stuff as possible. I want to decide when the brakes will be applied, thanks. I also don't like ACC and rarely use cruise control at all. I know I won't use parking assist, either. Of course, I can't remember the last time I parallel parked so there's that.

I have a Sirius free trial (3 mo) but I don't bother with that. I hate all the subscription services for stuff that used to be free. I'm wondering how the apps will work when I drop the wifi (which costs $25 a month after the free trial). Supposedly they will work off my phone's hotspot but if I'm in a poor reception area I guess I'm SOL. Then there's OnStar... ack.

One of the many things that stop me from buying a new vehicle is that I don't want all the gadgets. I am not even sure I like power windows and locks. One daughter in Washington bought an old Mazda that was all manual and it was refreshing to have to use a key to lock and unlock the doors. It did have an automatic transmission though, and i would have preferred a manual. They have so many cars (5) and they gave us the oldest to drive while we were down there. It is the one they bought for their children to learn to drive in.

Knowing the struggles of regular people when it comes to technology, I'm honestly surprised that car makers haven't figured out that having a computer on wheels isn't the best idea for most of us. Not to mention the dangers of distracted driving with all the screens and apps... truly ridiculous. I love my new vehicle but it has so much stuff that I will never use; really a waste. I dread to consider how much repairs will cost when sensors, computer modules, etc. start aging out.

My 2012 Lincoln had a nice suite of luxury features, and all except the navigation, clock, etc. were controlled with knobs, switches or slider adjustments. Very intuitive controls and no "apps" or screen swiping required. Navigation was touch screen but I seldom used it.

I think they just want to put us into self driving cars. We don't even have to own one and we will be happy.

We had a 1933 Farmall with a crank start. It's not too bad. Do you remember to retard the timing?

I'm the only retart. Most times I can't even remember my name. My first car was a fluid drive, 49 Dodge.

My day started off with a bang... literally. The lawn crew was here and thanks to WeedEater Guy we now have a shattered window. Action was caught on the Ring cameras and Lawn Boss Guy was apologetic. I have contacted the company that installed our windows a few years ago for an estimate to replace; it is a custom size so the ETA on a replacement is 2-3 weeks.

Thankfully the windows are double-pane with some kind of gas in between the panes, so only the outside pane is shattered. It is safety glass and so far is hanging in there, but I'm wondering if door traffic will eventually cause all the pieces to fall. Here's where the pebble hit...

And here's how the window looks...

Very nice! You could have all your windows done in that pattern.
I had a renter report a window like that. He said a bird did it flying into the window.
