Sorry, I meant TODAY it is child abuse. And if you let your kids go out and play that is child neglect although with the weirdos out there now, if I had my way, I would not let mine out and my youngest is 40
"Back in my day...." if I were to ever get paddled at school I'm fairly certain I'd get paddled again when I got home. So I behaved myself and did as I was told. Now I can make change for a dollar and calculate 15% of the retail price, read and write. Life is good.
My thoughts exactly!! I remember being told when I was young, if I got in trouble/paddled at school, the same thing was going to happen to me when I got home, so I better behave myself.
The church I attend and which my wife "administers" is occupied for some part of 5 days a week. They have services on Sunday, Tuesday. Thursday, and Saturday, and the ladies group meets there for several hours on Wednesday evening. They also operate an emergency food bank and utility assistance service for those in real need who can't make it to the regular community food bank or who are in danger of having utility shut off, particularly in the winter. There are people there to serve those needs. There is also an adult education lecture on the first Wednesday of every month now. I am all in favor of homeschooling. As I have said, we homeschooled our kids beginning in a time when it was dangerous to do so. There are, however, parents who are not up to the task, not able, or not sufficiently educated themselves to carry out the tasks required. THAT is where a church could fill the gap and provide services not available to individual families. As an example, the community classes in subjects many parents don't feel adequate to teach. It could also be an opportunity for the kids to get together and see they are not the only ones who are homeschooled. It would also provide "socialization" that is one of the hallmarks of the anti-homeschool movement.
