If you have huge amounts of time, this group puts out vids called One in a billion moments in nature. Some pretty amazing stuff but...
Today was flea market Sunday and I parked at the curb to drop my son off. As he was exiting I saw a dog wandering in the middle of the intersection. Cute dog. I watched it as he slowly headed toward us and stopped right in front of the Jeep. We both said, 'That's somebody's dog.' My son headed toward the house but the dog stood in front of the Jeep so I couldn't move. Finally I was able to pull off. A couple of hours later I got on my computer and decided to check out the notification from Nextdoor.com. As I scrolled a picture of a dog came up. 'I just saw that dog.' There was a number to call. 'Did you find your dog?' 'No.' 'Well I just saw a dog that looked just like yours.' 'Can you tell me if there was a collar?' 'Sure was.' 'How long ago?' 'A couple of hours.' 'Where are you at?' I gave him directions to our neighborhood. Luckily he lived nearby. Not too long after I was standing on the front porch and saw a white van slowly coming down the street. I thought, 'I bet that is the person I was talking to.' I checked back on Nextdoor.com but didn't see the post. I hope he found his dog.
I see a number of those posts on NextDoor. Folks cross-post to what's supposed to be a much larger Facebook Lost Pets area, but I don't use Facebook. I hope the doggie got home. They usually find their own way.
This Would Be a Wonderful Happening. I use a pendulum, for many years, how accurate I'm not 100% but it's been on target with stuff in my life. I asked it (RoseAnn) if Donald Trump would be our next President and I got an affirmative Swing.......... Asked the same of K Harris and got a Negative Swing........ SOOOOOOOOO
My neighbor (Harry) had been a Scoutmaster for decades. Harry retired from Scoutmaster position a couple of years ago (he's a year older than I) but is still active. He has helped untold numbers of scouts get their Eagle status. At one point another troop started in the county (I suspect there was some conflict causing this), and those other kids often sought out Harry for assistance when they were trying to become Eagles...and he always said "Yes." He's not only good at navigating the process (it's pretty complicated), he also stays on top of the adolescent boys to get things done before they age out (you cannot become an Eagle scout once you hit 18.) Today I helped one of his kids work on an Eagle scout project at the cemetery of a nearby catholic church. The vacant plots had been laid out with 4" medallions staked into the ground, but over time they had all sunk. The church wanted them located, excavated and raised. Harry called me to help because I have a metal detector (as did another guy.) We found the medallions, dug them up, then put concrete in the hole to rest the medallions on so they would remain at ground level. Harry had scheduled 2 to 3 half-days to get it done, but with the metal detectors plus the volunteers we had plus discovering that only 2/3 of the plots had been staked out, we were done before lunchtime.
My neighbors hooked me up with some fresh-picked apples. It's that time of year in Virginia, and there's a "scout mother" who works at a nearby orchard who gets my neighbors a bushel every year to share with friends & family. I got up this morning and mixed some sugar, cinnamon and fresh-grated nutmeg in a bag for the flavors to meld. I also went out and bought some vanilla ice cream. Gonna have fried apples & ice cream for dessert tonight! Not only that, but when they dropped off the apples, he said that he & his brother would come over and help cut my field again. I got so lucky when I moved here.
We had a bumper crop of apples this year and gave a lot away. Made apple sauce and apple pie filling. The containers I have contain exactly one pie's worth of apples. Unfortunately, they are a so easy to make now, they are made and eaten as fast as they come out of the oven. There won't be any left for the holidays I fear. Cut up the apples and fry them with your seasoning, butter, lemon juice and brown sugar. put them in a freezer container. Then, whenever you are in the mood....
Whats even more unreal is the 140 mph winds didn't blow them off last month. yet it took =down huge ,medium and small trees everywhere. Maybe the greenhouse and house slowed down the wind,
