I started out just following our president, (@realDonaldTrump). That is all I did for a long time, @Sheldon Scott . Then, I added the White House tweets, and next, Mike Pence, then later started following some of the people who were retweeting the president’s tweets, and then expanded to journalists that I like (Rush Limbaugh, etc), and then some of the patriot/Qanon people. I would see things on Facebook that were from someone on Twitter, so then I would find that person and follow them, and gradually I am getting a good variety of interesting information on Twitter now. I do not post anything, I just read, and then re-tweet things that seem important. It is a fantastic way to get news really fast !
I have been getting a lot of my news information from either Twitter or Facebook; but since both are completely run by liberals, a lot of the conservatives and Trump supporters are moving to more conservative social media. One of the fastest growing new platforms is called “Parler”, and most of the people who have been getting shut down by Twitter liberal management are now also on Parler. It took about a year for them to get their first million followers, and just this week they have jumped to over one and a half million; so by this weekend they will probably be getting close to 2 million people on there ! https://dailycaller.com/2020/06/25/sign-up-parler-3-days-twitter-suspends-pro-trump-accounts/ I am still getting used to it, since I just joined yesterday, but it is pretty similar To how Twitter works . Most people are still keeping their Twitter account right now, but if the censorship keeps getting worse for conservatives, eventually most of us will all be on Parler instead. I also signed up for “GAB”, which is more like Facebook, I think, but I have not done a lot on there yet. Gab has groups like Facebook does, so I joined some of the news groups on Gab, but I am still getting most of my news directly from either Facebook or Twitter. There is an app for Parler, but not for Gab at this point.
Twitter was hacked into yesterday. They compromised quite a few of the large accounts, including Apple, Gates, Biden, and Elon Musk. Tweets were posted from the hacked accounts telling people to send bitcoin and they would get back double what they sent.
Lucky for me, I have never had a Twitter account, nor Facebook, nor Instagram, etc. (And the hack couldn't have happened to a better group of people, lol.)
Elon Musk has changed a lot of things about Twitter since he purchased it, and is working on making it even better and more inclusive as time goes on. Contributors can now make money with their Twitter account, just like people do with a youtube account or other monetized online media. Recently, he changed the name to “X” which seems to be a symbol that he really likes, since he even has a child named “X”, and companies like Space-X. San Francisco for some reason was very upset when he had the Twitter name removed from the building, and then put a big lit-up X sign on the very top of the building. It was there for several days, and then the city forced Musk to remove the sign. An interesting thing is the ongoing rivalry between Twitter and Meta (Facebook), which belongs to Zuckerburg. For a while now, they have been talking about some kind of a cage fight between the two , and how they are training for the fight. I am not sure when this is supposed to happen, but it will be live on Twitter, and probably also on Facebook, and the proceeds will go to help veterans.
SOC is about as much joining as I have ever done. People kept pushing me to join facebook in the early days and as things went on I am sooooooo happy that I didn't.
Twitter has always been a great place to get real news and really fast, just about as soon as something happens, someone is posting about it on X. It is one of the main things that I enjoy online, and I check during the day to see what new things have happened in the world. Before Elon Musk bought Twitter, it was definitely liberal, and a lot of conservative pieces were either suppressed or sometimes eliminated completely. Who would have ever thought that a social media program would terminate the account of a sitting president of the United States, but that is what Twitter did. Elon has said that this was one of the things that made him decide to think about buying the company, because if they could do that to the US president, who knew what other bad things they would do in the future, and he knows how important it is to have information from both sides. His oldest son, Xavier, was put through a transition to female, which is why he always says that his son is dead, and indeed, the son/daughter now wants nothing to do with Elon. This is why he changed the name of Twitter to X, in memory of that lost child, which breaks his heart. It takes a while to get used to how X works, because it is different than Facebook, which I see as more of a way to interact with my friends and family. On X, I follow news, political, and health accounts, and do a lot of reading, and not as much interacting as on facebook. Once you start following people you are interested in , then your feed shows more and more of that kind of posts, similar to how YT works for showing you videos you might be interested in. Since I watch horse videos and sometimes food videos, this is what shows up on my YT feed when I open the app. Then, if I watch a monkey video, I soon see more monkey videos in my feed, and it is always changing , depending on what i watch. This is how X works, too. More and more people are no longer watching the “legacy media” channels as they realize that it is all just leftist propaganda, and not real news. When Kennedy came over to join Trump, his followers were amazed to discover that the MAGA people were nothing like they had been told, and that the oldtime Kennedy Democrats and the MAGA Trumpers have almost the same values, and care about the everyday working class people. I think that online media like X is the future of news, and X is definitely the leader, not just in the US, but now all over the whole world.
I had to practically hog tie my daughter to get her to vote. Her roomies and boyfriend are all Democrats and with me a flaming Conservative, she didn't know who to vote for. I told her we could lose the farm if I had to pay 25% pre sale tax after the recent property tax increase if Kamala got in. Well, she hadn't registered hoping I would go away but we got her registered and she voted. We had to go to Watertown today and I started gently asking about politics. I was surprised her boyfriend was anti Trump. She said his whole family was Democrat. Her roomies are all tied up in knots about gender crap. I am so glad my children are afraid of me and do what I tell them Except for my oldest. I wonder how one can disinherit.
A little off topic, but Elon Musk was in on the call between Trump and Zelenskyy. I wonder if Musk is threatening to take Starlink away from Ukraine? Starlink is reportedly the way in witch Ukraine communicates with the front and is used somehow to target things in Russia. That would make Zelenskyy much more amenable to a negotiated settlement.
Look at this! I am so excited and grateful. Unelected officials telling us what we have to do with health decisions our with Biden making a treaty by passing Senate. Not only our health but the health of our animals, produce, gardens...
As a tangential issue (and sort of asking for help), I've given up on signing up for X. I got past the Verify You're Human stuff and had the Verification Code sent to me, only to get the message "We Cannot Sign You Up Right Now" message. This happened twice. I just tried on a different browser and got to the point where it asked me to create a Password, which I did. It then said "There's Something Wrong With Your Username," and took me back to the Password field. I have no idea what's wrong with my Username, and no way to get back to it without starting over. I give up. edit to add: This is on a laptop, not a cell phone.
I signed up with the app on my ipad, and it was a long time ago. Back then, I had no clue how to use it, so I basically just forgot about Twitter for the next 5-6 years, and got interested again after President Trump first was running for office. I don’t know if it would be easier for you to use the X app on your iphone to sign up or not. I think that right now, so many people are signing up, that might be why you are having trouble doing it. When I was going to try and upgrade to a checkmark account, I got the “can’t do it” answer several times, and quit trying. When I finally did upgrade, I did it with the laptop because it is cheaper when you do not use an app. X has to pay Apple (or google, or whomever) when you sign up for a paid account through an app, so it costs more to sign up. Anyway, try starting over. I don’t know what would be wrong with your username. I just use my @Happyflowerlady name that i use most other places where you need a username, and it works fine. Also, you can change that anytime you want once you are signed up, so I could have used my real name, or whatever else, and it would have worked, I think. You do need to give them your real information at some point in the registration, and your email, but that should be all as long as you are getting the basic free account. Message me if I can help out !
Thanks for the offer, Yvonne. My Username has spaces and an apostrophe in it, and I did not put the @ before it. I looked at other X names and many have spaces and characters in them ("Joe Smith, M.D.") All of the articles I find on this subject involved using cell phones, and they all said to reboot the device and try again. It's disappointing because every other site that requires credentials tells you what's wrong with the data you've entered, and it takes you back to that field to correct it.
