I'm so sorry that you and SIL are being subject to this. The stuff that happens in hospitals is fodder for Alfred Hitchcock nightmares. It makes one paranoid if you think about it too much.

Sorry your family is having to deal with this, G. Unfortunately we all have to be our own advocates when it comes to medical care these days. At least your poor brother has someone to be there for him.

That is for sure, and it is important to have that living will, or at least have discussed things with your family, so they know what to do if you become unable to make those decisions.
With our Humana insurance, they offered something called “My directives”, and it was free, so I filled it all out and shared it with my family, and have a copy on my phone and on the ipad, so if something happens, they know what I want, or have authority to make the best decision.
I definitely recommend doing something like this.

We are keeping your family in our prayers, @Hedi Mitchell , and I know that this has to be such a hard thing to be going through, and not even be able to be close enough to see your brother.

This video is about how the ground had been poisoned with PFAS etc and the flood stirred it all up Cadaver dogs died from the poisons when searching. I had heard that the land has a lot of minerals the government wants so if the people abandon their property, the gov't can scoop it up.
They don't want to help the people rebuild. Like in Hawaii after the fires.
@Don Alaska, I had two friends that were from Appalacia who did not have a heavy southern accent. Of course, not all info on Youtube is real.

Not just the accent, but the speed at which she spoke. I was always told to slow down when I lived there. Really good people there, though. I really enjoyed living there, probably more than anywhere I have ever lived. I was in Asheville on the North Carolina side of the mountains.

I have a couple of rants, but I don't remember where the thread is. Mods, please put them in the right thread.

Rant # 1...... When is free delivery not free? Walmart says it has free delivery on orders over $35. I recently placed an order for $93. When my total came up, it said it includes a tip for the delivery driver. I could be wrong. (I was one time when I thought I was wrong, but I wasn't;) but that doesn't sound like free delivery to me.

When is a tax increase not a tax increase? My county boasted earlier this year that we would not have a tax increase this year. Then they reevaluated property. New houses in the range of $300,000 & up are being built just up the road from me. It seems that they have almost doubled the value of my house thus doubling the amount of my taxes. I'm not planning to sell my house, just live in it as long as I can afford to pay the taxes.

The tip is optional, @Shirley Martin . There are always several options, and they choose one as the default option, but you can change that to no tip, or any amount you want to.
The delivery is simply that walmart is not charging you for delivery, the driver is paid for their delivery job, and you can choose to tip or not tip. Bobby always like to personally hand money to the driver, that way he know the driver got all of the tip, and it doesn’t get lost and have to come out of the paycheck.

We have used Walmart+ for a couple of years now, and it works really well for me. I add food to the order until I have enough for the free delivery, and then send the order in , and get it delivered. As long as the deliver is over 3 hours away, it is free. We have free shipping, so even if the order is less than $35, it is shipped free.

My real estate went up almost 10% this year. My place outside of DC about doubled a few times. They play games with this stuff. My county was considering increasing the tax rate and then issuing a Rebate the first year so it was meaningless. But then in subsequent years, all they had to do was not issue a Rebate, and the rate increase would already be there.

As far as delivery goes, it is never truly free here. Prime delivers, but I think we pay more for our Prime account than others do. It always aggravates me when I get "fee delivery" offers only to find out that it is only in the lower 48. Even seed orders, which can be put into an envelope and dropped into the USPS flat rate, which casts the same everywhere in the country, it costs here for "free delivery". As far as taxes go, one of the benefits of living here as an old person is that we get the first $182,000 of our property vale written off. We also get free hunting and fishing licenses, and one motor vehicle is tax and registry free. We also still get the Permanent Fund Dividend every year. We do have to put up with real estate tax rate and valuation increases, and everything we buy costs more here, so I guess it kinda breaks even.
