The best Virginia can offer is a discount to 65 & Over for a saltwater fishing license and a discounted Combo Fishing and Hunting License when you hit 80 (but you still pay full price for game-specific tags.) We won't talk about real estate and personal property taxes. I just wrote the checks today.

What do you use Alexa for, @Von Jones ? My daughter gave us one of the little ones several years ago, but we didn’t use it doe anything, so it just just been sitting around unplugged all this time. Don’t know if it even works anymore, but it doesn’t really matter since we didn’t use it anyway. Totally curious what other people do with Alexa ?
We have (had?) a Goggle Home. For us, we'd ask it questions, like we would our iPhone, and it would answer us. It can run different things in a home, but everything has to be associated with the Goggle Home. There is now a miniature version of it. The original Google Home is only sold on E-Bay now.
We have never used Alexa, our cell phone is only used on trips to grocery now that we don't travel. My son ask it questions when he is here, which is seldom since he lives in Texas.
Right now I'm using it to remind me to "Do a little thing." Tasks around the house that I keep putting off for 'later.' I programmed Alexa's reminder feature for every hour from 6am to 10pm. So far it's been working but sometimes I'm in the middle of one task and I'm reminded. So my tasks are not 'little' any more. I would change the reminder to longer than one hour but I'm afraid that I will slack up on my tasks. I also just started listening to music when I'm cleaning. Sometimes I'll play a trivia game or check the weather for the day or week. I like the timer feature too when baking. You can also watch movies though I haven't because it's set up in the kitchen.
I think Alexa and other robots, etc. come in handy for invalid people , blind, deaf, people with a real need for the help. But i still like paper and pen for a to do list, I do use my phone calendar for important reminders. Just this morning it came up that Mark had chest xray a year ago tomorrow. It works for me. No shame if you like the other way better, I just feel the need to keep the old mind working on its own - as much as possible. I have admit I have become a lousy speller. So do have to resort to help in that area.
@Kate Ellery- if you can download Scam Shield, it will eleminter 99.5 of that who ha. I use free version, On Google but mine came with phone.
Oh I forgot to rant . Still no response from Brittle Brothers sending me wrong brittle size and not giving me a credit I HATE KANSAS GAS company. I wanted once before about the error that was made on their end, yet they still sneak in a $35 charge to my bill as a deposit.! So now I only pay by mail, and I write on the bill I send back with payment- how I do not owe them a deposit!Ok so maybe will not do anything, butI like the feeling it may irritate someone
Hedi first I have to remember the word I'm looking for to spell. Lately I have problems finding the words I need to use.
I always look at the return addresses. Strangely they never match who they say they are in the body of the text.
I was visiting my daughter in Vermont and my middle daughter asked me about an old song. I think I said something like Alexa, play Teach Your Children Well, which is probably not the title but Alexa played the song. I could ask for songs all day if she could figure what I wanted--IF I trusted her otherwise. Don't like her knowing my business.
Thanks, Yvonne. I'll check for that next time. It's kind of like Amazon gives you free Amazon prime unless you remember to click, "No thanks,"
I'm not sure if this was ever mentioned on this thread before, I didn't see it or remember it. My daughter ordered some toys for my grandkids, when she got them there was a a coupon for a free gift card if you gave them a five star rating. Sounds like a bribe to me. That means you cannot trust the ratings of their products. It Just bothered us. Felt like giving them a negative rating.
