Another magical memory from Thanksgivings past, is a Sweet potato casserole topped with pineapple and mini marshmallows. Might try to find a recipe "for two".....for next year.

Here is what we are having for Thanksgiving. It is alot of food for 8-10 people. I have scaled back not making other dishes over the years but I still seem to make too much work for myself. I make some things ahead of time and freeze them to save me time like pie crusts, cakes, and bread cubes for dressing. I am getting too old, tired, and slow and I need to quit doing holiday meals.

    Roasted turkey
    dressing
    mashed potatoes and gravy
    fresh green beans
roasted sweet potatoes with a butter brown sugar sauce
    corn pudding
    roasted thyme carrots
    cranberry salad
    homemade dinner rolls
pumpkin pie with fresh whipped cream
    coconut cream pie
    carrot cake
    oreo cake

I haven't eaten cornish hen since my boys were little. My neighbor asked me if I was baking turkey and mentioned trying cornish hen after I told her I wanted something different. After seeing the price was half of a small turkey my mind was made up.

I used to make cornish game hens quite often. I liked having white and dark meat in a size that wouldn't last a single guy forever.

    Excellent choice!!

My meat will be chicken drumsticks. I found some large ones bulk packed in bags at $0.99/lb so I got 4 lbs.

I have 4 of them in the air fryer right now with some cut up taters. I just put poultry seasoning, onion powder, smoked paprika, dry red pepper flakes, dry basil flakes, and some lemon pepper in a big ziplock and shook it and rolled it with the chicken and potatoes inside. Spritzed on some olive oil.

Grr, I need a different oil sprayer. This one sucks.

I have ordered plates from Cracker Barrel again. I have ordered from them for the last two Thanksgiving. The first year it was perfect. Last year I was dissatisfied. I sent them an email and they sent me a gift card for a free meal.

Ordering plates is so much easier than spending hours and days in the kitchen cooking. I get to spend more time with my company and, when we get through..... no dishes to wash!!!!!

Six plates cost $109 including tax. Sounds good to me. My son picks the plates up at curbside and gives a generous tip to the person who brings them out. I figure they earn a tip for working on Thanksgiving.

We always ate Thanksgiving dinner at my grandmother's house when I lived in Ohio. I can't remember any specific food we ever ate... except ... yeast rolls! She would make them from scratch and her whole house would smell like yeast rolls when she put them in the oven. I think I could live on just yeast rolls and butter.

That's a good idea, Shirley. Maybe I'll do that instead of going to a restaurant. I'd rather eat at home.

Never turkey. Chicken now days as the prime rib days are gone. Actually ,we like to eat different as shrimp gumbo is great at Christmas. We are going to his nieces house, she will have way more than anyone needs, but will be good.
I think folks over do the eats on these holidays and make them selves miserable. A good Rib Eye is a treat now and will be good NY day;)

It pays to remember that just as Christmas is not about shopping, Thanksgiving is not about eating.:)

We won't be this year because we'll be leaving on a trip south soon afterward, so we'd like to minimize activity somewhat.
