I received a FAQ sheet from SpectraCell, the lab that did my micro-nutrient test. It's rather interesting. They measure Functional Deficiencies based upon each patient's cell performance rather than by quantifying the volume of a given nutrient that's present (mg/dL). The idea is that we each metabolize nutrients at different degrees of efficiency, and this analysis is supposed to measure that specific degree for each patient.

They give this explanation, using B1 as an example: if your report shows 70% next to vitamin B1, then it means your cells only grew at 70% of their optimal growth potential when vitamin B1 was removed from the cell environment (culture medium). This means your cells did not have enough stored vitamin B1 to function optimally, and consequently your cells are deficient in vitamin B1. [what they did not say is that the Reference Range for B1 is 78%, not 100%]

So the analysis goes through that methodology for each nutrient, defining "Deficient" for each nutrient as "Falls Short of Optimal Cell Growth." I do not know how "Optimal Cell Growth" is arrived at for each nutrient.

I've uploaded the FAQ to this comment. It does not address my question regarding the colored line graphic. I may (or may not) circle back with them on that.

I don't trust the current vitamin and mineral content of any food item. Isn't there a comment here about farmers in the 1920s sounding the alarm on soils being depleted of nutrients? Maybe Brazil nuts are still fully potent, but...

It is true much of farm soils are depleted. We have acres of soil left fallow and as pasture land. I don't worry so much about us. But when pills provide nutrients, you need to know a LOT about it.
Calcium carbonate is worthless. Sugar, alcohol, simple carbs deplete calcium. So what each person needs is dependent on diet.
Our bodies show a lot about our health and deficiencies but a lot has to be paid attention to to know what is needed.
