Reminds me Kinda of my kids family dog itd ago who snipped the young boy and the father picked up the "old" dog and away he went with it...Trusting any animal??????
What are XL bully breeds? Something like 70-80 percent of dog attacks in the U.S. are pit bulls. When I worked with a vet, I saw several owners who were terrified of their own dogs.
I think that part of the reason that so many are bitten/attacked by a pit bull type of dog is because those are the kind of dog that a lot of people get who should never have a dog of any kind. We have them here, and they are people who think they look good, walking their pit bull down the street to protect them, but the dogs are tied up in the back yard, some of them are deliberately starved or provoked just to make them act meaner. And the dogs have no loyalty to the master, or any other person because of the way they are treated. At one time (years ago), these dogs were kept specifically to protect children, and they did, but after they started being used as fighting dogs, the more gentle part of their personality was bred out because the breeders wanted fighting dogs. Way back when, I lived next door to some people who were bikers and druggies, and they had a yard full of dogs chained up, and half-starved. Even the animal control would not go in that yard to take the dogs, and I do not know if they were afraid of the dogs or the owners more. They had a little Dobie, and I would bring her fresh goats milk and she would drink it, and I asked them if I could have her and they gave her to me. She had been so mistreated that she was always scared, especially of men, and when I gave her food, she would just keep eating because she never knew when more food might come or if she would starve. She was a wonderful dog, and my kids loved her and we had her for many years.
After my neighbor died, his nephew got the house and lives there with his GF. They also bought 3 three large breed dogs wanted by the GF as I understand it. They go nuts whenever they see anyone out the window or when let out to pee in the yard. I stood ready to protect my space with a spray bottle of ammonia, and the neighbor caught me giving them a dose. He's basically a good guy, so he put up a privacy fence between us. He once told me that the GF wanted a kid. Jeez! With those three crazy dogs in the house and an infant?
There are a couple of grown "puppies" in our neighborhood that dig out of their fenced yard regularly. They are big and goofy, and I have posted about them before. They like to bark and bounce around like morons but they are not scary... just annoying. They were barking at me while I washed my car on the driveway so I gave them both a hit of the water hose, haha. They are usually rounded up by a teenage boy who takes them home. Last week I read on the Ring Camera Neighborhood App where someone posted a video of the dogs on their deck wanting to know who owns them. Apparently the dogs went into the person's home through the doggie door and tore up a lot of stuff making a huge mess. Can you imagine?? I didn't rat them out but I'm sure someone did.
Dobermans are really cool dogs @Yvonne Smith and they look a bit goofy if their ears aren't clipped. The Pit Bulls however were originally bred as fighting dogs. I was told by a guy in Georgia that if you want a pit bull, buy it form somebody who breeds the dogs for fighting, as any aggression toward humans is eliminated and only aggression toward other dogs is tolerated. Those that are bred for "pets" are bred indiscriminately and are unpredictable. Dobies, like German Shepherds/ Alsatians and the like were bred or converted to guard dogs and are usually very protective of their humans.
A good friend here in the apt bldg who helps me, owns a pit bull, I steer clear of it as I tried to be a tad friendly once and the dog went on the attack mode, why people have them is nuts. A relatives is a Rotweiller breeder, another fearful mean animal Must be a male macho thing....
