Mary , this is good advice for those who can follow it. We do try to keep extra supplies on hand, yet give out of some things that don't keep well. Thanks for reminding me.
Do you disagree with her being on antibiotics? I thought that was the standard of care for bacterial infection.
Beth some antibiotics are dangerous now like the ones below, https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=4fdf...mbHVvcm9xdWlub2xvbmVzLXNhZmV0eS1yaXNrcw&ntb=1 Fluoroquinolones are a class of antibiotics approved to treat or prevent certain bacterial infections. The fluoroquinolone antibiotics include ciprofloxacin (Cipro), gemifloxacin (Factive), levofloxacin (Levaquin), moxifloxacin (Avelox), and ofloxacin (Floxin). However, some people who take these medicines may develop disabling and potentially permanent side effects of the tendons, muscles, joints, nerves, and central nervous system. A person can experience more than one of these side effects at the same time. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises against using fluoroquinolone antibiotics for the treatment of three common infections: acute sinusitis, acute bronchitis, and urinary tract infections (UTI) without complications. The agency made this decision because the
I think all pharmaceuticals have a certain amount of risk for some people, Marie. But if I have bacterial pneumonia at my age, I want medicine.
Me too but some are safer than others from what I understand, Beth so many things now are different than before, so we have to watch and be involved in our care,I do agree with you on the care and meds though. Some are really needed and save millions of lives, but a few can do more harm than good.
While frequent use can be an abuse of antibiotics, the bigger problem comes from a series not being completed. If one has a bacterial infection, then going to a naturopath or self treating can be dangerous. I am a great lover of herbal medicine, but I see it used by people that haven't taken their other medical conditions in consideration. Just as chewing Yew bark, won't remit cancer, processing it into Taxol and then infusing into the body, has on numerous occasions, caused a remission of cancer. Several pharmaceuticals originated from natural sources. The key word is "originated."
I think that all that Mary is doing is considering that most antibiotics kill the good bacteria long with the bad ones, and so it is often a good thing to up your intake of foods like yogurt or kefir that have probiotics and will help replace the ones killed by the antibiotics. I seldom have had to take antibiotics, but after the heart procedures, they always gave me some as part of the preventive measures for infection. I always try to have probiotic foods anytime that happens. Sometimes, after people have been in the hospital for a procedure , they might also have some constipation because of the lack of a healthy gut biome, and taking the extra probiotics can really help get things working right again.
Exactly! People with heart problems usually take the one time four capsule bomb before any procedure that might release bacteria, such as a dental cleaning. Natural, unsweetened, whole milk yogurt is a daily routine for me. In the event of taking an antibiotic, I double my daily amount, for a week.
