LOL...well in those days we were on very poor wages so I would have eaten a scabby horse if it had been free...
I do - I do ............... It was the best of times - it was the worst of times (but I wanna go back)
That's so funny, @Holly Saunders, I remember my ex telling me that he once won a pig. He lived in a farming community, so I guess that was somewhat normal, but being from the city, I was somewhat flabbergasted. I'd never heard of that before, and here you are, having won the same thing. These days it would probably cost at least as much to have it butchered, but at least these days I'd know where to take it to have it processed . I'm still trying to win anything and everything (well not quite, but I do enter quite a few contests and sweepstakes), but nothing since the last notice that I posted about here.
Oh the great thing about winning that Pig @Diane Lane was that the dissection of the animal was included as part of the prize so I didn't have to pay for it...
I once won a company wide contest by suggesting the best idea for saving money on and manufactured center pivot sprinkler system. The prize for winning was 500.00.
If I were to win I know plenty of people I could help out. Seems like quite a few of the people I know are in the same boat I'm in.
Well the Albertson's Monopoly game is pretty much over with and our winnings ended up being a box of Belvida breakfast biscuits (I chose the banana bread flavor), a small bag of Ghiardelli chocolate squares (I chose the dark chocolate with sea salt and roasted almonds), and a $5 grocery gift card. Something is better than nothing and even though we didn't win big...we did win some delicious treats and a gift card that will treat me to my favorite flavored coffee creamer. Life is good.
Oh those Belvita biscuits are the best!! Ghirardelli chocolates are yummy, too. That was a nice win, and good choice on the flavors. I think the Belvita biscuits I've had were Oat something, and they were delicious. I actually received a box the other day, containing the 'cleaning' products I'd won. They're actually considered aromatherapeutic products. I was happy to see they were nicely made and it's always fun to get something for free. A couple of days later, I went out to check the mail, and as I was coming back up to the house, I noticed two boxes sitting by my kitchen door. When I brought them in the house and opened them, I realized it was two more boxes of the same brand products, so I won 3 boxes full of products. Additionally, they were extremely well packed, so now I have some free packing products for when I sell something and need to ship it out . Here's a picture of the products I won.
Hmmm, I haven't won anything recently, but then I haven't entered too many things recently either. I have won some nice things in the past though. I guess my last winning, was during the first Powerball frenzy, craze or whatever you call it, I opted for a scratch off ticket instead, and won 6 bucks on that. Better than I would have done on Powerball I am sure
I may be the unluckiest when it comes to contests and raffles. No, I have never won in the office raffle, in the grocery raffle, church raffle, school raffle, absolutely no winnings. But my husband has lesser bad luck. He once won a prize in the Christmas raffle in their office - a home vault that can carry valuables. It's a good one that we are still using until now since he won it in 2001. But I would like to brag this anecdote. It was in 1995 when a colleague gave us a complimentary overnight stay in a posh hotel. We were financially down but what the heck, it is an opportunity. My husband and I checked in at 3pm with McDonald's hamburger for our mid afternoon snack that we ate inside the hotel room. The hotel has a casino downstairs that we checked for curiosity. I counted our money and had a few pesos that I changed for casino chips for betting in the roulette. My capital of 20 pesos ballooned to 700 pesos within 30 minutes. My husband whispered to me to quit because I was already winning. And common sense told me to agree. That night, we had a grand dinner in the hotel's classy restaurant for 550 pesos, leaving us with some change from my winnings.
