It was - and I miss that peace Why they have to turn up the volume on their voice when talking on the bloomin things is beyond me - strange times We got by very well pre mobiles - I have one and its very rarely switched on, got it for emergency use only
Sure was @Ike Willis ...oooh to be able to sit in peace again in a restaurant without some buffoon bellowing into his/her phone at the next table while you're trying to have a conversation...or be able to walk along the road without some idiot looking at their phone walking towards, and into you....or people so engrossed in the darn thing and walking out into the road right in front of my car without even looking...
Sorry, but I like the modern day stuff! If I was to ever go back to the old Lassie and Rin Tin Tin days, definitely two things would go with me.........iPhone and laptop.

We still live in this by gone time for we've only a landline phone. My Mom doesn't want any cell phones near her because she has a pacemaker and would like to have safety and that means for her no cell phones of any kind. I don't miss it, for what you don't know can't be missed. It is peaceful and is alright not having a cell phone.
Yeah, but those old corded phones weren't always peaceful when you had a "party line" Remember when you would go to use the phone and someone else was talking on it. You had to keep picking it up to try to get a free line. I do like the techological advances of being able to always have a line available to call someone. I think back in the day you could pay more for a private line, but my parents weren't in to that.
I could definitely live without cell phones but my laptop and my Wii console and games are two things I would not like to live without.
I am not sure how we ever lived without microwaves. Talk about a timesaver! I don't usually cook my dinner in there, but they sure are handy to have around. Cellphones are great for safety purposes..but I would give that up before I ever gave up my microwave. I prefer my real oven more...but sometimes it is just too hot too cook in here, and a microwave and or barbecue grill comes in handy.
@K E Gordon Microwave a turkey one time, and you will never roast one again! Be sure the one you buy is not too large for your microwave, especially if it has a turntable; the turkey's squarish shape must be able to turn freely. First time my wife did one, I was skeptical, but she had been teaching microwave cooking classes by then for quite awhile. Turkey white meat being typically rather dry after roasting, is deliciously juicy when microwaved. A 12 pound bird takes 60 to 90 minutes to completion! Frank
