You have been searching for over a year for an affordable house that you would love to live in. Finally, you find one that seems just perfect. However, the day that you are scheduled to close on the house, you learn that a family of five was murdered inside the house three years before and the house has been vacant ever since. Do you still buy the house?
There is an apartment in London which is currently available, where a notorius serial killer once murdered a number of young men. It has been bought and sold several times since their body parts were found in the drain pipes. I don't think it would put me off buying my dream home at an affordable price. The history of the place is probably what is keeping the price down, but it may not be a good investment if you intend selling it on. If you want it as a place for you and your family to live in it would be a problem if any member of your family felt uncomfortable about it. I think you would have to consider the impact it could have on everyone who is going to live there. If there are kids moving in, it might mean that they couldn't have their friends to stay over or even visit with them because parents would not allow it.
I wish I was brave enough to say yes but I don't think I could ever feel comfortable there. I guess I should not have read "The Shining".
I wouldn't buy the house, I'd just keep searching. As perfect as that house would be, I would never be able to get over the fact that I could be sitting on the very seat someone was murdered or I could be sleeping in the same place a child died.
If I were raising a family, I probably wouldn't buy it for the reasons that others have stated here. Otherwise, unless my wife had an objection, it wouldn't bother me.
I think I would pass on the house. There may still be spirits in the house, I know that sounds weird but I believe that spirits some times are still here after the physical body has passed on. I can feel those spirits so I will stay away from that house.
There is a similar incident that we experienced but not a murder or anything tragic. In 2001, we searched for a house in this village. After seeing 5 prospects, we finally found an ideal house. And it fits the budget. I was ecstatic when the owner agreed that we would buy it via a bank loan. After signing the intention to buy agreement, we hastily filed the loan application. After waiting for 2 months, the loan was approved and we went to the owner. Lo and behold, the owner wanted for us to buy it in cash. He wouldn't sign the deed of sale without holding the entire amount of the sale. It really broke my heart, made my cry for so many days. But we could not nothing because we didn't have the cash.
I have always lived in old homes. Even a couple with outhouses. My present home was built around 1870, so I'm guessing that just a few deaths have occurred in it. When we bought this place it was falling to pieces literally. It had not been lived in for more than 10 years, because two gay people with Aids committed sueicide (sp) in it. All home with any age to them is bound to have uncomfortable happenings.
Wow and I thought my house showed it's age, yet there is something so charming about the older homes isn't there? I would not care if someone was murdered our died in my house. I know as fact that someone did die in my house, actually more then one person because it states it on the deed. You can only figure someone has died at least once in most older places. So why worry about it? You know what I find funny is that we always worry about dead people coming to haunt, what about dead critters? I have killed plenty of mice and I know a squirrel died in the walls yet no ghosts of them. i swear though i have seen the ghost of my one cat, maybe that's why. Next door to my mother is a house where there was a murder, a lady that moved in became friends with my mom and i asked her if she knew what happened there at the house. My mom said she didn't and not to tell her, the one day this woman tells me about this dream she has, more like a nightmare of someone pulling her and how scary it was. She said she felt like something bad had happened there in that room, and it had. I think it is possible to sense it to a certain degree.
Technically, I don't suppose anyone died in the house I am in, but someone did fall out of the upstairs window (drunk) and die hitting the ground out front.
O/T...from all these bumped up ancient threads, I've been remembering the posters who we came to know well, and no longer post!! I wish they would come back.., and I still miss Ina but unfortunately she can't come back
