I'm glad you've got someone who is willing to work on it and get you back up and running. I get so irritated with how the honest folks like us jump through these hoops we can't afford to fulfill because it's the law, then the cheaters know where to go to get someone who'll wink and pass them, then they drive down the road smoking away and no one seems to notice. My vehicle's up for inspection again this coming month, with registration the month after, and it's hard to come up with money for those things with medical bills flowing in.
Hi Diane, I sure felt your pain reading your reply. It seems to have everything to do with some, people's moods doesn't it. At DMV, post office, grocery stores (even at Walmart where I get "no" help I have once-in-awhile, run into someone so nice and wanting to help me). I accept it as the way the world is, but I don't have to like it. The only thing that truly gets me through is my faith in God. It's the light at the end of the tunnel. I don't know what State you are in Diane, but I found something here in California, that didn't help me unfortunately, but could help others that live in this State. It's called Smogtips, and here's the website. http://www.smogtips.com/consumer_assistance.cfm I don't think there are that many folks here that live in CA, but other States may have something similar. In CA, if you've had a registered vehicle for at least 2 years, you can get 500$ cash for smogtest "failure" repairs. Also, there are coupons for some, smog stations. Free coupons. You might look into it for your State, and if you need help researching it, let me know. I can find a lot online. I didn't qualify for the "fix" on my truck because it's a new registration for CA. Also, two things I've found out from others here, and other folks, is that my truck is considered a commercial vehicle (so ridiculous) in CA. But, since I have a built-on canopy, can't just pop it off, it's considered non-commercial. Then, it is over 25 years old, which in many States, that puts it in the Classic category. Both things can make my registration less expensive. Too late on the non-commercial help since DMV doesn't give refunds, go figure, and I'd payed my registration already. And DMV in CA does NOT consider your vehicle a classic unless it's a 1975 or older, what a crock hey, LOL!! hugs, denise
Thanks, Denise, Hopefully I'll pass the inspection with no problems. My car needs work, but at least last year, it wasn't anything that prevented it from passing. I had to get some work done before due to the emissions system. I think that was on my last vehicle, though, which was also an older one. I rarely drive it anyway, and it would be nice if they had some sort of lower level inspection for those who aren't on the road as much, but of course that isn't the case. I've got this thread on Watch, just in case, and I'll check out the link if I have an issue. I'm going to try to get it inspected towards the beginning of the month just in case there is an issue, since the registration expires in July.
If you have anyone at all Diane, that knows what they will check, I recommend having them look at it. Or is you suspect you may have any trouble passing with some issue. If I'd done that, I wouldn't have had to pay the Automotive place twice (I failed so they still charged me 40, and when I go to have it rechecked, they will charge me 65 again if I pass). We had stations in Oregon that you just drove through and were done in 10 minutes. My truck cost about 15 dollars. Sounds like you won't have issues though Like I said though, if you need help checking out different sources for some help, let me know. DMV won't tell you anything, like if their are coupons etc. Neither will an auto shop, they may not know of the help, but you can bet the DMV knows if there is. One other thing Diane. At our Senior Center here in Crescent City, they help seniors with all kinds of things that they can get breaks on. All this money I am dishing out, may "at least" some, be written off. I don't know how that all works yet, but the people there tell me to hold onto every receipt denise
