This may be related to the thread although this is in the Philippines. Last year, there was the senate inquiry on the medicare privileges that was being abused. The focus was on the eye hospitals. There was this doctor who was doing surgery 4 times everyday. One of his patients had gone blind after undergoing surgery 4 times. Now, that is clear abuse with money as the objective. There were other cases uncovered that people's health are being taken for granted because of the profit gained in the consultation and operation. The system is for the medicare member to consult a doctor and the doctor files a claim to be processed by the hospital or clinic which would be paid by the government. That privilege is the target of those shrewd doctors who are victimizing poor people particularly the seniors. I don't know that happened to that senate inquiry if the doctor was jailed but definitely it was an eye opener on the abuses.
It is enigmatic that an industry whose purpose is to aid people ailing with treatable medical problems as it's primary function, is working counter-productively by curing illness and then losing repeat revenue from it. So, a toss-up. In my own case, lack of feelable or seeable symptoms means I am not sick, do not need doctoring, and need no medication. Sure, I know full-well that early detection of many diseases means a longer life. How much longer, though? Any guarantees? Trust the doctor's word implicitly? Hell, no, to all of them. When it's time to go, you'll know it, and it will be time to go. Frank
I agree Frank when it is time to go that’s it. The medical system wants you to suffer many years making them rich before that happens
But, just think what things would be like for us without a medical system at all. As for me, I'm glad I'm still with VA Medical, but we are both glad that we are on Medicare and Supplements. A lot of older folks have numerous health problems which require higher costs for medical attention and meds. I use to work for a Senior Healthcare Company, and even though it did cost, the Seniors that the drivers picked up to go to one of our healthcare centers, were mighty glad they had that help.
We have been convinced by them that they are the only ones with the answer The blue zones around the world have the oldest people also have one thing in common no modern medical system. Any health problems are dealt with the elders. We have been told that our new medical system has all the answers and have been fooled into believing it. Reality shows when they don’t have it you live a longer healthier life. It is also funny that the farm animals treated with nutrition have no or little health problems. If we had Medicare for animals they would all be sick and a hamburger would cost $1,000. They have made themselves so protected that you cannot know about alterative and if an alternative makes a medical claim the FDA goes in like a swat team to destroy them.
I will agree with you that there are some problems within the medical system, but, like other problems that Seniors have to sometimes deal with, nothing we can do about them.
I think we can and I have see people become x-diabetic, cured of congestive heart failure, cured hight blood pressure, cured arthritis and people becomeing healthier just with nutrition and not the drugs.
