The implications are pretty clear: gradually erode away guarantees provided by our Constitution, doing so illegally without appropriate use of Amendment procedure.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Dealing a blow to gun supporters, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday that Americans do not have a constitutional right to carry concealed weapons in public.

In a dispute that could ultimately wind up before the Supreme Court, a divided 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said local law enforcement officials can place significant restrictions on who is allowed to carry concealed guns.

On June 9, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled 7 to 4 that the “there is no Second Amendment right for members of the general public to carry concealed firearms in public.”

"To accomplish this they had to ignore the text of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Bill of Rights, misinterpret the Supreme Court decision District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) and cite English laws going back to 1299."

"The Second Amendment of the U.S. Bill of Rights says, “…the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” As used here, the word “bear” is a synonym for “carry.” The U.S. Supreme Court ruled as much in Heller: “[a]t the time of the founding, as now, to ‘bear’ means to ‘carry.’”

Yes it would. As time goes by, though, I have noted over the years that the "lip" so often expressed ("pry my gun from my dead fingers", etc.) has diminished more and more, as the general apathy of the public grows deeper and deeper. Sorry state of affairs! Frank

 

First comes the desensitizing by taking away small things that people don't like but are not worth fighting to keep. Then with each new thing it gets a little bigger. I would not put any thing including sacrificing our own citizens past our government to sway public opinion. I think we will continue to see mass murders til they get our guns.

The Constitution provides for America to"bear arms" or to create a military should the need arise. It does not provide for individuals to bear arms. This particular area of the Constitution has been misinterpreted for quite a while.

 

I quite agree.

 

The U.S. Constitution doesn't give people the right to bear arms, it reaffirms and protects a right that already existed.
