When I was younger, I don't remember seeing a stroke victim whose body is half-paralyzed and had difficulty in speaking. Or maybe stroke patients during that time were so prudent and ashamed to show themselves in that pitiful condition to the public. But anyway, I have noticed the prevalence of stroke victims. Just in our village, there are more than 3 of them that I see almost everyday presumably walking for exercise. In the office, there are 2 and in some other places as well. Whenever we would go to the mall, we never fail to see a stroke patient in a wheelchair or walker or with a cane but their condition is obvious. My physician brother-in-law said that it may be the modern lifestyle we have which is fast-paced and the food we eat are so delicious but not really nutritious. Add to that the stress that we get from the job and at home as well, a sure-fire formula for a stroke. I have been taking maintenance medication for high blood for more than 10 years now and my husband had started his maintenance just the other day when he got a checkup. By the way, my mother was hit by a stroke 5 years ago and she remains paralyzed and bed-ridden.
That's very sad about your mother. I don't know myself if strokes are up in occurrence. They are a devastating affliction. Glad I stopped smoking at 25 since smoking is a cause.
@Kitty Carmel Thank you for posting this. I had not heard smoking has been connected with stroke. Frank
