Few things are more annoying to me then when the internet provider services to take a vacation all on its own. That is why I was not here yesterday and it really annoys me. Back in the States it is pretty easy to get help but here, when you speak a broken language, it can be next to impossible to get service. But finally it is back again and hopefully will stay up.

Difference of culture also makes it difficult to complain as if I get too loud I will may be put on hold and eventually dropped and then the whole game starts again. But for the most part, life is good! Will be catching up on responses this morning and then probably make a few new threads. Hope everybody is happy!

I've become so reliant on the internet - I hate when we have problems and it goes down. Thankfully, in the past 5-6 years, it's gotten so much more reliable. I can remember 10-12 years ago it was up and down like a yo-yo. Very annoying. Especially when you were in the middle of up or downloading something and it quit.

Of course, it was so much slower back then too. I can remember when it would take up to a minute to load a page on the screen - yikes!!

Our Internet provider is terrible! Last month it was down, off and on, for 5 days! My daughters have to turn in some of their college work online, so it really presented a hardship for us. Every time I called, they'd say, "Our engineers are working on it." When it finally came back up, I went in and demanded that they pro-rate my bill. They said they would... for 3 of those days! They said if I had called in every day, they would have been able to pro-rate it for the entire time! Sheeesh! Next time, I'll torment them every day!

Ugh. The internet being down is the absolute worst. Luckily I haven't had to call in for a good while but it's still really dodgy and I have to keep resetting the router.

It is truly amazing how dependant we have become on the internet. Our service is too slow for the number people that use it, I can tell when the kids are home my computer crawls but when I am home working alone no problems. We do need to upgrade but that is more money. I keep saying I am going to get myself one of those devices that give me internet when we crash which is often.

A few nights ago was the first time that I noticed that there were some widespread problems on the net. No doubt from the terrible weather, tornadoes, and wind. I was able to get on the web but found things really slower then they have been in a very long time. Many sites were down, and I am seeing today some sites seem to still be having issues.

I really cannot complain about my service provider. For many years a used a private dial up provider that was local. they went belly up and at that time I upgraded to Verizon and I have zero complaints. I stream things just fine. Things load okay. I do notice if the kids are home things seem a bit longer if they start playing League of Legends online, that is a huge program and does slow down just about anything but forums.

Occasionally, mine goes down, but thankfully, I'm usually able to hook into the neighbor's when that happens. We've exchanged passwords, just for that reason. With my former provider, I had to use a different neighbor's connection so I could stream downstairs, since I couldn't stream to my downstairs TV from up here, and when she and her hubby were both working online, sometimes she'd use my connection, instead of hers, because it was quicker.

It is funny how dependant we are now to the Internet. Yet here on this forum we all come from a time before there was such a thing as the Internet, yet now we can't imagine our lives without it. A few weeks ago I dealt with an issue myself. My modem died and my Internet provider couldn't get me another one for four days. I had to literally go to the home of a family memeber to get online at least for an hour or so. Its was such a strange experience I felt like something was missing in my day to day life. Well, it was my Internet, fortunately I got it back. My DSL may not be the greatest but at least its something.

I just switched to a new ISP a few months back and while this have some lagging time from time to time, is not as annoying as my previous Internet providers, which owners probably believe the web is a kind of online office that has to be turned off on weekends, and therefore most Saturday and Sundays used to turn my computer to find a "maintenance" alert preventing me to surf anywhere other than their own portal at most, because this might be or might no be up.

I have never heard of a paid Internet service running Monday to Friday as mine was, not even the free service available at some public spaces here.

One trick not many people know is that, with most companies, you can ask to talk to a specialist as soon as they pick up. This pretty much means that your problem will be fixed.

If you are dealing with online support, you can ask for your ticket to be "escalated", which should have the same effect.

However, Internet taking days off? That sounds really strange and fishy; I'd change providers if I were you.

I'm not sure how things are done in other countries but I have lived in place here where connections were far worse on weekends, not because the ISP curtailed services but because there are far more people accessing the Internet on the weekend, thereby clogging the Internet pathways.

I have noticed that sometimes I have a very slow (or non-existant) connection to this forum. I thought maybe it was the Chinese going after your area again; but I think it does usually happen more on weekends. So , perhaps it is just that the internet in your area is busier on weekends , like you mentioned.
If it were my internet connection, then I would probably have a slow connection for anywhere; but it seems to be mainly limited to this forum.

You're not imagining things. So far, what I am getting is that the forum (both of my forums) have been under attack. I'm going back and forth with tech support on it but, so far, no one is getting in but the constant blunt force attacks are taking a toll.

I have the same problem, but only on this forum. Early mornings, it's impossible to get on at all. I have to try several times before it will load. Just now is the first I've been able to get on.

That is really strange ! It is not like we have any kind of valuable information happening on this forum (and probably not on your other one either), because what Chinese hacker would care what flowers or veggies are growing in our gardens, or what we dreamed last night ? (Or, what if it is Extra-terrestrials trying to learn our best recipe secrets. )

Maybe , you are close to something that IS important to the hackers, and just getting part of a generalized attack of some kind. I don't know if that is possible; but it sure seems like the United States has been having a lot of important information hacked recently, so they must be doing a goodly amount of hacking.

Do you have any idea WHY these attacks would be happening on your forums ?
