This is where it is at for me, too ! My thought is that when ever I see a need in another person's life, praying is always a correct answer. Maybe not the only answer, because sometimes we can help that person in other ways, too; but it is always at least part of the answer.
It is nothing that I say or do that saves anyone else anyway, salvation is between each person and God, is my belief.
My mom always told me that we should never take away from a person what they have, even when we do not agree with what they believe.
She said that if we tell them that their beliefs are wrong, and then they do not accept our belief, then they have nothing at all, and are worse off than before we tried to convert them.
Her way was to share when someone ask, but let God open their heart to ask what she believed. Pretty much, that always made sense to me.
I know that when someone tries to convert me from my beliefs to theirs by telling me that mine are wrong, I am no longer receptive to listening to them most of the time.
If they just share their belief with no pressure, then I can think about it, study what they believe, and make up my own mind what I believe is right.

That was then and this is now. You can't even compare the times.

Is that the official Catholic doctrine, that the Bible is irrelevant for today?

I don't speak officially....I was saying that you can't compare the times. Meaning that the apostles preached back then to everyone. We live in a different world now. There are things in the Bible that aren't even relevant in today's world.

Hmmm........uh .....Good luck. When I was in Alaska I was praying for a ride. Then, I tried hailing a Mary's one time and she ignored me and sped right past me.
That Mary's taxi must have been going at least 60!!
Long story short, I did catch a yellow cab with a WWJD on the bumper so I guess my prayers were answered after all.

When it comes to certain things about religion, I truly believe what Chrissy says above (in red). People who read the Bible may not like hearing that, but fact is fact............very different world now!

So, it's all good now, right? I didn't realize there was an issue. I didn't see the thread where people were upset. I tend to ignore what offends me, but like @Chrissy Page, I get very tired of seeing and hearing Catholics put down. I see a lot of that on Twitter, not by agnostics/atheists/Jews/Muslims, but by supposedly God loving Christians. I grew up surrounded by people of all (and no) faiths, and never saw or heard anyone discriminated against, until I moved down here the second time, when I experienced it for myself.

I have no problem with people commenting in non-religion themed threads that they'll pray for someone, or that they're struggling and would appreciate prayers, or similar comments. I don't think every thread needs to be dripping with it, though. I can post about baking, my cats, and many other subjects without involving religion. We have people from all faiths here, and I wouldn't want to make others uncomfortable or make them feel unwelcome. I've started threads on a few sites about Lent recipes and similar topics, and obviously only certain people choose to respond, and that's their prerogative. I've never felt discriminated against or targeted by anyone here, but if my religion is being denigrated, that would bother me. I don't get into long philosophical or religious discussions here or pretty much anywhere online. I tend to try to keep things as light as possible, because I don't have the energy to argue.
