This Ricotta, Tomato and Basil Torte looks really yummy. I like the idea of using different colored tomatoes, to give it some added interest, although I'm not sure I've seen multiple colors at my local grocery stores. I might have to stop by the local feed shop soon, they bring some produce from their farm and sell it at the shop, maybe I can find some different colors of tomatoes there. I'm also not sure where my springform pan is, and I might wait to make this until I make another batch of ricotta. The measurements can be converted by the site, but it's a clumsy conversion, so I think it would be best to simply use an online converter to convert the ingredients, especially since there are only a few anyway.
That really looks like something I'd like. Looks pretty low carb also. Not Atkins low but South Beach low. Multi colored tomatoes are easy to find here, see them in all stores. Even the little grape tomatoes come in yellow.
@Diane Lane You are making your own ricotta? That is super! How long does it take to do? I don't make that many things with ricotta, but it would be nice to know how to do. The torte looks really good. I would try to put as many colors of tomatoes on it as possible, to try to edge up the healthiness factor. I had something different last night cooked carrots, my body must have been craving Vitamin A. I saw them in the store and just had to have them. I think the torte looks fantabulous! I hope you make it.
Yes, please make it and tell us because I can't imagine the taste. I've used ricotta when I did the south beach diet as a dessert. Think it was ricotta, almond flavor and Splenda. If I have to use the oven it won't be made til cooler temps so no pressure.
Yes, here's a thread where I posted about it, and the recipe is there. It's easy to make, and I've made it about 6 times so far. I use it in things like manicotti and lasagna, as well as just mixing it with fruit, for dessert. When you make it yourself, you can control how dense or watery it is, unlike the pre-packaged kind. Unless you strain the pre-packaged ricotta, it's tends to be very loose and somewhat liquidy. It would be easy to bump up the nutritional aspect of this torte recipe by adding eggs, spinach, etc. @Chrissy Page I haven't even looked for my pan yet, and don't have the ingredients here at the house. I'll probably hold off, the temperatures are going up and up here, and the AC is already on all day, it's crazy. Hopefully in a few months, it will cool down some and I can attempt it.
Ha, I couldn't last that long without baking, but I try not to do it took often when it's this hot. I have my eye on a dessert I want to make, and I have all of the ingredients for that, plus I know which pan I'd use, so that might come first, then later on, I'll make this torte, when it cools off. Maybe by then, I'll find a place that has some colorful tomatoes, or I could always add something else for color.
Looks like a pizza and looks really good too! I buy frozen...too lazy to bake my own and have no time to go from scratch. Sure looks yummy though! I love pizza pies and other recipes for it too love to eat them more, lol. I really like some of the Bisquick recipes if it's easy to make and has a Bisquick Heart Smart recipe. Found out the Bisqick Heart Smart is just like Bisquick measuring to bake with.
