We are all taught that the world is round, and never question that fact anymore. People who believe anything else are considered a little wacky. So it was with much skepticism that I watched this video from someone who does think that the earth is truly flat. It was really pretty interesting, and if a flat world is actually the case, then a lot of the things that we belive and take for granted just don't fit any more. Not saying that I have become "one of them"; but it IS a pretty intruguing video. Watch it and put in your two cents worth.......
I watch and listen to someone explaining the flat earth theory. It was interesting but you have to ignore a lot of what is going on in space or think it is all a lie.
So, I am suppose to buy that the footage that has been sent back to us by satellites showing the Earth as round are false. Sorry, I highly doubt that for all these years this has been the case. Also, what is the big deal here, someone have an obsession to prove Columbus wrong or something. The Earth is round just like all other planets I don't even know how this whole its flat argument came to be or for the matter how it continues to this day.
If we believe everything that our government tells us is the whole and exact truth; then obviously there is no posibility that the earth (or anything else) is different from what they have told us. However, at least some of us do not just believe everything that we hear or see on the news anymore, and it is this kind of a person that will also question other things that the government tells us. If you think that there is a possibility that the twin towers might have been an inside job, that some of the shootings might have been orchestrated, or that we might not have actually gone to the moon; then the possibility that they have also lied to us about the earth is also within the realm of possibility. There are some interesting videos that suggest that what we are shown as Mars photos (and now Pluto photos) are actually taken right here on earth, in Greenland, to be specific, and then tinted a reddish color so we all think they came from Mars. I think that I already posted about that; but if not, I can post the video that explains this. This is a tape from a radio program with Mark Sargent, and it goes over a lot of these things , in particular about some of the lies that NASA has told us, and it also explains a lot of the reasoning behind the theory of an enclosed earth.
It would be strange indeed if the earth was flat when the moon and all the planets we can see are spheres.
This is actually one of the fastest growing topics on the internet, and there are some amazing proofs out there that our earth is not what we have been told that it is. (I am sure that it is bringing in a few people just because we are discussing it on this forum, and may turn up on someone's search and direct them to the forum.) However, unless a person is willing and able to grasp the premise that the government lies to us about everything important, and that this is just another coverup, we are so programmed to believe this lie that we are unwilling to even read the information and check it out. It is also easier for me because I am a Christian, and believe the Bible and that we were created by God. Since this is basically proving that the earth was created, and didn't just come from some "big bang" and develp randomly as the evolutionists tell us; it would be harder for people who believe in evolution to even explore this possibility.
Yvonne You are right the government have not been telling the truth for years and I woke up back when they said they did not send a U2 fight over Russia. I started believing the Russians after that. This goes beyond just our government to the world governments. Now Russia. China, India, and other countries are sending rockets up there so are they all lying that gets difficult to say. Everyone on the internet said that in 2012 the world was finished they even made a move over that and the dollar was finished in September. The internet is as believable as the government.
What you present is an interesting theory, @Yvonne Smith . I'm a Christian too but I'm in agreement with Biblical scholars that don't believe the Bible is saying the earth is flat. For instance, when it says the 4 angels were standing at the 4 corners of the earth they say it's referring to the directions of the compass as North East South and West much like the terminology that we use today such as the sun rises and sets each day when we know that it's the sun revolving around the earth. In Psalms there is something there that says "God will hold the pillars firm" but we can't dismiss that Psalms is written in poetry form. In context, the pillars are not literal but rather referring to God keeping our earth stable with his power even when our morals have taken a nose dive…as it has these days…but our planet still sits firmly in the universe…because of God's power and promise to hold our foundation firm. Scripture is supportive of a sphere when it says the earth is "suspended over empty space" and "the circle of earth" suggesting a sphere. When God speaks of "drawing a circle on the face of the the deep", he's speaking from the vantage point of space where the horizon is curved, where the deep oceans meet deep space…much like you see in the photos from NASA as well as Russian satellite photos of the earth's surface from space…also a curved horizon where light ends darkness begins for a spherical earth. I don't think both the Russians and our government would doctor their photos. What would be their motive? What would they gain from that? http://www.gotquestions.org/flat-earth-Bible.html
Here is one perception of the motive, @Lara Moss. Our Bible is believed by Christians to be the word of God, and it was believed (literally) by people for hundreds of years. Even other religions that do not use the Bible have a similar creation story as the Bible tells. Undermining the story of Creation is the first step in discrediting God. Next, the atheists claimed that the earth circled the sun, and that the sun does not actually rise and set, as the Bible says it does. After that, the atheist evolutionists came along and said that plants, animals and humans all just evolved, and were not specifically created in an order. By discrediting the Book of Genesis, and making it seem like a fable, it is now the reason that many people choose to not believe that there is such a thing as God anymore, or that the Holy Bible is the word of God. What everyone once believed (each in their own fashion), has now been put into the same basket as a fairy tale. I do realize that many Christians do not take the Bible literally anymore, and some just think that it is all a book to teach us to live morally. And some people just do not care what the world is really like. To me, this is the "smoking gun" that there IS a God , and we are specially created, and not just a random bit of life in some huge cosmos. But, that is just me. We all walk our own paths.
The question of "motive" that I posted in my post #9 is referring to the conspiracy theory of doctored photos of our planet, to make it seem round instead of flat from space, by NASA…and that would have to include the Russian photos as well. My question was why would they spend all that time and money to make the earth look like a sphere if it isn't? That's a lot of wasted time and money just for jollies, no? If the earth is flat, wouldn't we feel the sharp edge when traveling from America to Europe? I assume the answer is gravity but where is that edge? Wouldn't there be a sharp contrast of light to dark instead of gradual like we have as a sphere? No one has reported noticing any sharp changes anywhere when traveling. Regarding the Bible's truths...I believe everything it says in the Bible when put in context. Sometimes one has to read the whole chapter, or even the whole book, to understand the true message. A scripture can mean something completely opposite when taken out of context. I believe there are no contradictions when context is taken into account.
From their viewpoint, I believe those flat-earth believers have their basis. When you look at the horizon, you cannot really say that the earth is round. Even when in the sea where you see is water everywhere (it is because the roundness of the earth prevents you to see what's on the other side). And when presented with some evidence, those flat-earthers would invoke their creed on the conspiracy theory that everything was doctored including the moon landing of man. Talking with flat-earthers on the issue would seem to be seeing 2 lawyers arguing on 1 line of the constitution. They would never run out of rhyme and reason.
I spent six years sailing and have noticed that when we came to an island we seen the mountains long before we seen the beach and we would see the superstructure or mast of ships long before we saw the deck. There might be an explanation for this but the round earth seems to fit better.
I once entertained the idea of a square, or cubical earth, but it has never returned for another visit.
I am not sure how to think about the flat earth discussion. On October 4, 1957, the Russians put the first artificial Earth satellite, into orbit. I remember, that it could be observed, at night. Wouldn't that prove the earth was round? Could a satellite orbit a flat earth? I am just stumped!
