My husband and I are always observant when we are outside. Like the other night, we were in the small commercial center, checking the eateries. We noticed that half of the diners in several restaurants were using their phones. Is that the social manners we have now? And worse, it's not only the younger generation but it looks like age doesn't matter when it comes to using gadgets.

What is happening to our society? Are we being slaves to technology that should serve us? Or are we just anti-social and the gadget is a good alibi so as not to be obvious of our timidity?

I think its a bit of both Corie - I can't stand mobile phones
Now we have this silly Pokeman game with people glued to their phones chasing an image here there and everywhere
When I leave my flat, I'm glad to get back to me nest - its a whole new world out there and I'm the alien ............

Always thought I'd buy one of those cell phone 'interrupters' that run on a battery. They cause interference to cell phones within so many feet of the device. They come in many sizes, from shirt pocket to larger. Would be fun.:D

You are right , @Patsy Faye , and it has seemed to me for a while now that so many people live in kind of a "make-believe " world that consists of virtual-reality type games, or even the television shows which are supposed to be kind of a reality show as well.
I see people posting on their facebook pages all about what people are doing on some television program, and they aree as involved in that as if it were real and part of their actual life.
Now, with the advent of interactive games like this new pokeman go; it looks like people will be living even more in their virtual reality world, because the game interacts between the fake and the real world.
I have an iPhone; but I never play games , and I just use it for phone calls or taking pictures. It is still strange to me to see people walking through the grocery isles and asking someone through their phone what they want for dinner, or some completely unrelated topic.

Remember public phone boxes and then we had a phone installed ?
Wasn't used that often was it
So Yvonne, you are absolutely right and for me it is very sad
Its useful to have the mobile phone for emergencies, otherwise its switched off (must check the battery :p)

The old farmhouse we lived in when I was 8-10 years old had a wall phone just like this one. There was 4-5 people on our 'party' line. Each had a ring. Like one would be 2 long rings and a short etc. Can't remember our ring now, but my dad made me memorize our ring and our fire number that was nailed to a tree in front of our house. It was a number that told the fire dept. where you were. Good ol' days.

Well, I love having an iphone...makes life easier. I write my grocery list on it so that's what I look at when out.

Least I don't lose that like all my scraps of paper I'd write things on. Saves time also, sometimes I'll be looking at a toy or something in a store for a grandson and not sure if he has it. I take a pic and text to my son and he texts back with a yes or no.

It got me 2 free boxes of my favorite sugar free popsicles the other day. I bought a few boxes and in one most were broken so I took a pic of them. Next time I went to the store I showed them the photo and I got 2 free boxes.

I wasn't going to drive back with a box of broken popsicles to prove my point.

I'll leave the house without a bra but I won't leave without my iphone. :)

It kind of annoys when people are talking on their phones in a restaurant, although I'm not sure why.
