    Growing Old….A Privilege

I have been sitting here pondering what to do this new day given to me…and such a sunny day! as i age, i am thankful for each new decade i get to experience.

Used to dread the thought, as most of us do, of getting older, but after many health experiences past 5 years, im thankful to be able to age.

As well, each new decade brings new experiences, some good, some bad, but still an experience. For example, at age 63, i find i am slowing down somewhat. Could be just from all my recent surgeries, but even so, slowing down. And, i find i tire more easily.

But, regardless, it is so great to just wake up and enjoy all the good things life brings us.

Many folks die way too young, not getting the chance to grow old. Growing old is an experience we are lucky to have, if we get the chance.

Now in my sixties, im finding new things to keep me busy. For example, i volunteer an oldies music list, 50′s n 60′s music, to the music director of a local radio station, for a show broadcast friday nights. It is fun, and gives me something i enjoy doing. As well, i volunteer helping out various charities from time to time. This is sometimes exhausting, but so rewarding.

Yes, my sixties dont seem so bad afterall, even with those health problems bought on by aging. i am looking forward to my 70′s, and the new experiences they will bring. Life is so precious, i am thankful and grateful God has given me the chance to age, i have enjoyed going through the decades of my life so far, and if i get the chance , looking forward to the next decade.

Hubby is now retired, we are enjoying just going off, sitting on a bench in the park, and relaxing. Enjoying all the sounds of nature, and having this time with each other. I do worry of getting dementia, or even having a stroke down the road, but still if we are lucky enough to have the chance to grow old, we are so fortunate.

What is that saying..” Grow old with me, the best is yet to be “…..hope to be able to experience the next decade, and all that the “growing older change” offers, be it good or bad.

So wonderful to wake up , especially on a sunny day! makes all those problems of aging seem minimal, and for some strange reason, a sunny day seems to erase all those problems of aging!

Get out and enjoy life, and each new decade, for there are new experiences just awaiting to be found.
    Dee

Growing older is a wonderful new experience. It is wonderful for we get to see what new computers can do, find sugar free pastries and sit in the front of the bus! We get Senior discounts, people holding the door open for you, we get to use the handicap lift when we have our shopping cart on the bus, so being a Senior is fun too. Sure we don't run as fast as we once could, but you eat the right foods to fend off diseases and weaknesses so life is okay. Being computer literate is okay, till you get hit from those ...virus or malware, but we got Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft Defender both free, so they'll hit back for you and rid your computer of those pesky virus and malware & etc! Life as a Senior is okay, another journey to life to add to our long repertoire of life. Like you just thankful I'm still here to enjoy life and find solutions for the rest of life.

I say "Face each new day with a gusto, and a belief".

    I believe I'll have a cold beer!

I am not old, I am middle aged, but really, I will take what comes down the pike. Sometimes I think my life is not too great, but I think of my cousin who died at 61, when I think of that, I want to live. I mean, I am healthy for the most part, and as long as I can be healthy if I can live to a ripe old age, I will consider it to be a blessing!!!:):):)

    1 To 25 is youth.

25 to 50 is middle age.

50 to 75 is the senior years. (I'm there now.)

75 and older is just plain old.

At least this is what one of my sons told me when he was around 10.

I was so glad to find and read this today Dee, you are so right, and this helped me a lot. I did feel good about life this a.m. I'm the same age as you are, and some health-issues have been getting me down but all I have to do is check my gratitude list, add to it as well. One thing I think is so wonderful is to be able to get on here. I hadn't been doing a lot of that, but coming here and drinking my coffee with others of my kind, it's just a wonderful opportunity.

I love what you do in volunteering, and 50s 60s music!! I wonder is there any chance that is broadcast on the internet? If so I would so love the link?? I used to live near a college, in a nice residential area. Every, Friday night in the Summers, some neighbors had a backyard party. They were really considerate, nice folks, and they had a firepit I could see all lit up. They'd bbq, then play 50s 60s music and dance on their deck. They were about our age too:) I never had the opportunity to meet them but I loved hearing those old songs coming through the trees on warm, Summer nights:)

It's really nice to meet you Dee, I hope I see more of you. Like I said, I hadn't been here much, but now it's becoming part of my morning routine again. We are having some good weather again now. Had a lot of rain, thunder, lightning and winds (30 mph). I live on the far Northern coast of California, just South of my home-State of Oregon.

Hello Denise. So nice to hear you enjoyed my blog. Yes, i can understand all too well your being depressed over your health issues as i have had many these past years as well. As we grow older these health problems seem to take over our bodies, one after the other. But, i try to stay chipper as much as i can, and i am thankful for each new age i become, and for my hubby. I had some more surgery last December and during that surgery i had some heart problems. Nearly didn't make it home, i thank God for giving me more time on this precious earth. I have a wonderful husband and one son and they still worry about me. I think it is a gift if we get to grow older and enjoy those " golden" years as they say. Many folks die way too young, they don't get to experience the joys and problems of growing old. Yes, i loved doing the music for that radio show, it has since been cancelled. Love those old 50's and 60's tunes! I am in the south-eastern part of Ontario, Canada. Hamilton. Try to stay chipper Denise, even though it is so hard when those health problems are with us, i understand fully. Please write me again, it was a pleasure to get your email, thank you.

My dad was born in The Sault Dee:) I had a wonderful album of photos of their "cabin" they lived in. My dad's side of the family was from Wales. I've never been up to Ontario, maybe one day:)

I'm sorry to hear the station is cancelled, or program I guess you meant. I think I can find one online though, it just sounds like something neat to tune into. I hope you have a lovely day, we just have 48 degrees so far, but sunny today:) Denise
