The Catholic faction is a large coalition, weaker yes, than decades ago, but encompasses a large portion of the Hispanic contingency. Who can predict the feed-back from this one?

Yes, there are many Catholics in California mainly due to the fact that we have so many Hispanics who are for the most part very catholic.

Even though California is pretty liberal, Religion seems to be tolerated more here. Although I can't remember what the topic was but I was surprised at some of the things talked about at my grandsons public school.

Any other place I would have imagined complaints by atheist parents.

There are Catholics in both parties, don't think religion influences voters as much as you would think.

I'm pretty liberal on social issues...I should be voting Democratic but I never have.

Almost all of my daughter's friends and grandsons friends belong to some church.

In one dental office that my daughter's associate is buying I looked at pictures online and there is a huge cross on the wall.

In my Doctor's waiting room, on the end-tables having magazines and such, there rest copies of the Book of Mormon. I have been tempted to ask him about them, just curious, but always thought better of it. Patients of other religious persuasion might just frown upon the one-sidedness of it.

    Or, I may be a creepy trouble-maker.

Maybe a Mormon patient left it there. :) Is your dr a Mormon? Are there a lot of mormons in your area?

Don't think there are many here.

Here is the pic of the dental office so you can see I'm not making it up. Another dentist is there now but she's selling and moving to AZ. Starting January my daughter will be an associate here.

The religious affiliated hospitals here have crosses or crucifixes. My doctor is from India. I think he's a Sikh or Hindu, but I'm not entirely sure. He has a picture in his waiting room of a religious leader, but I've never paid that much attention to it, and I'm not offended by it.

Here, although Maine is one of the least religious states in the country, even the municipal and federally funded medical offices are likely to include Christian literature or decorations. Nothing really in your face, but it's there. While there are a lot of unbelievers in Maine, except in Portland it does not seem that we have a lot of evangelistic atheists. People don't believe but neither does it bother them that others do. I think it's a matter of tolerance, as I doubt that there would be an outcry if someone were to leave literature from some other religion. For a time, someone opened a Wiccan shop here in Millinocket. It didn't stay in business long but, as far as I am aware, there wasn't much in the way of protest over it, other than one independent (King James) Baptist church in a nearby town where it was mentioned from the pulpit. No protests. There just weren't enough Wiccans around to pay the overhead.

I think California is like that, we do have a lot of Catholics but most people don't care..at least in central CA.
