Didn't really know where to put this, so: Yesterday I started taking, printing out (4 x 6) and saving photos of things we own in our apartment. I use my iPhone, download to our desktop (auto erase on iPhone), print out and put a copy on a usb flash drive. The printed out photos will go into our Safe Deposit Box at our bank, while the flash drive is here at home. What's this for.........in case of any theft. Having pictures of expensive stuff, along with pictures of the Serial Number is good advice. If something was to happen, law enforcement would know exactly was ours (if found). Ever thought of doing this? Good security measure.
@Cody Fousnaugh Always heard recommendation that valuables, especially those having verifiable factory serial numbers, should be listed out and carefully saved. Photos are IMO an additionally good thing. At one time, having collected together many firearms, I thought about doing this. I re-thought it after considering that most had been obtained from individuals, and the history of each could not be established. Were some stolen, at some point in time? No way of knowing. This wasof course before the "Computer Revolution". My alternate safety scheme was to build an absolutely burglar-proof and bomb-proof storage vault, which consistedof a thousand-pound 6-inch thic steel and reinforced concrete door, 6-inch thick reinforced concrete walls, floor and roof, all built-into a corner of my shop/garage. Designing and building the combination lock system for the door was an interesting challenge. Only part I didn't make myself was the graduated combination dial, which I bought from a locksmith. We lived in the house 10 years, before selling out to move to Missouri. The new owner was not a firearms fancier, but inherited an immovable vault anyway. Well it's a good idea to take pictures of your stuff and put it in a safe place in case of fire or other weather damage for insurance purposes too.
That's a good idea, Cody! I don't care too much about my possessions and to be honest sometimes I wish someone would come in my house and take them all and save me the hassle of downsizing, lol but I do have some things that are worth something that I inherited and bought back from Hungary and those I would take a photo of so my kids know not to get rid of those few family treasures when I die. P.S. I take a pic of my suitcase when I fly because I've had to describe it a few times when it was lost and or late. All I could say was that it was black...after that I took a pic each trip.
