I feel like an alien in this world, I understand less and less the ways of the people We have them starting a sentence with the word 'so' - I hear this constantly We also have them ending a sentence on a question mark - huh ? We then have women talking like they have a frog in their throat, drives me ! Growling their words like its one big effort ! Stop the world - I want to get off ! ! That's my rant for the day
@Patsy Faye , I think I might be guilty of several of your peeves. I tend to write the way I think. This is probably because I didn't have even one English Grammer course until I was 35 years old, and I do start and end many of my sentences inappropriately. Such as ... So , what do you think?
@Patsy Faye ...geez girl have drink...settle down. Lolo I know these things are irritating but there are worse things to fret about
OK @Gloria Mitchell , Tell please. What did you see? If you don't clue me in I'll be trying to figure it out all day. To me that's like trying to see something that you know someone is hiding.
Nowt wrong with 'so, what do ya think ?' You're ending a paragraph with a question Not giving me loads of 'so and so's
Is that 'so' ? So you want to make a drunkard of me - no says I, I won't do it ????? - growl growl ................................
I have a couple of those peeves myself. The repeated insertion of, and ... and ..., another one is, you know ,,, you know ... , But I guess those are better than the adding the F word into every sentence.
@Joe Riley I think @Patsy Faye is just having one of those days. Sometimes you can put up with things, but eventually enough is enough. At least we get it, and if posting the peeves can keep her from putting a sock in someone's mouth, then that's a good thing. You my friend have the patience of Jobe, or it that spelled wrong. For some reason I want to put Job, but that can't be right.
I've noticed a lot of internet post that start with "ok so" Drives me bonkers. "OK so I have a question." Can't just say "I have a question?" Living in a college town I have found some young women who very sloppily pronounce their words. It's almost like they are talking in all vowels or something. I can't describe it any other way. I once took a phone call at work and after this woman stopped talking I literally had to say to her "I didn't understand a word you said" She didn't have a accent and English was clearly her first language. She just couldn't speak clearly.
