Noo... I live 300 miles from Houston...the lines are from panic about lack of gas soon. Place some stations here already have ran out
I'll be busy for several days with cleaning and trying to document just what Harvey destroyed, so I'll just be checking in to try and keep up with everyone. Today will be a good time to be thankful for the many good friends that I have here, and the things I still salvage.
President Trump has said tomorrow is to be, "A National Day Of Prayer". Because President Trump is visiting Texas I wanted to see what he might be able to do for all the people not as fortunate as I. So as I was watching our president on the local TV channels, I have to say I was so proud that he is bringing religion back into the speeches made in his leadership. It made me realize that this has almost been eliminated from our leaders.
Finally, the last remaining flood gauge in the Houston area, will fall below purple or major flood stage...
One of the lesser published results of hurricane Harvey came out yesterday. The Houston area received 275 TRILLION lbs of water which lowered the crust of the earth in and around Houston by 2 cm.
Uh Harry, I do know that lbs and pounds are the same. And also know that it takes 2000 lbs or pounds to make a ton. No, I do not mean tons! pounds into pounds equal pounds then have to be converted into tons. Perhaps we are saying something around the same thing but please do not think me daft nor ignorant.
Hi friends, I wanted to check in, and let everyone know I'm doing ok. I'm still waiting on my Allstate adjuster to come and tell me if they can fix my home. I thought I had gotten off with little damage, but once the water went down we were able to see several problem areas. I know I'll have to have a new roof, and my home has shifted off it's foundation in the back part of the house. My hardwood floors have a split from the back of the house to the front. My husband's old workshop got four feet of water, and of course all the tools and lawn equipment are ruined. The zero turn lawnmover being the most expensive. I haven't even tried to turn that on, and I have no idea what to look for on that. I have to give praise to Allstate. I been a customer with them for almost 40 years, and they've been calling at least every other day to check on me. And best of all, they already sent me $5,000. on just the personal content of my home, and I do not have to pay that back. Then I got a call today telling me that I'll be receiving another check for the same amount, and that one will be part of the total amount of the dwelling repair cost. My water well finally gave up two days ago, because it was under water as well. The well man had to replace everything from the ground up except the holding tank. My roof has at least three large holes in it. I finally was able to see my doctor yesterday, and it seems I have a bad lung infection, so now I'm take antibiotics to try and clear that up. But I feel my Creator has been with me through it all. I want to thank @Harry Havens , for his help with the graphics on Greens Bayou, I just didn't know how or where to find that information. And I also want to thank @Yvonne Smith for staying in touch with me through the storm. I admit to being afraid, and just knowing that she was there to talk to helped relieve some of that fear. God is good. The first picture is part of the foundation, the second one is the well, and the well house will have to be rebuilt as well.
Yeah, that doesn't look good, Ina. I am so sorry you were hit with it, but pleased that the insurance company is coming through. We had a somewhat similar situation a few years ago when nearly all of our water and heating lines broke while we were up north one winter. Aside from having the plumbers here on Christmas Eve and until about midnight on Christmas Day, there was water damage. I was prepared for a major problem with the insurance company but they dealt very well with it, paying all of the bills and arguing about none of it, then giving me a check for $300 when it was all over to pay for any incidental problems that might not yet have been noticed. There were some, but not $300 worth. I don't even know what the full bill was but we had four plumbers here over the Christmas holidays, and then the heating people came in after that, so I know it wasn't cheap.
