It is called Youtube Red, where you are allowed to see the professional videos on a membership basis. In other words, those are paid channels where you can choose the shows - movies, tv programs and documentaries plus some independent videos. So where does that put the tv now? Take note that the tv has a program to follow so what happens if you don't like that show? You will change channels. And how many channels are there? With youtube red, there are countless of channels to choose from and it instantly shows at the tip of your mouse and with no commercials at that. If that youtube red becomes successful, I guess the tv will be passe.
I don't think that will happen just yet. There are still a lot of (mainly older) people around who don't have computers. I wouldn't use it either because my internet connection is too slow to watch long movies.
As far as I can see, you do not get to watch any more of the youtube videos, you just get to see them without the ads. Most of the ads are able to be turned off after the first little bit, and you do not have to listen to the whole thing anyway, as it is right now. I use Spotify and Pandora for music; so I would not change just to have Google music either. Although it might be worth it to pay $10 a month not to have ads on the videos, I do not find it enough of a bother that I would pay to get rid of them. Youtube already has some videos that cost to watch, and from what I read, you would still have to pay to watch those videos. If they were free with the subscription, then it might be worth paying for because there are movies on youtube that you can't find on Netflix, and I would consider a subscription if those were included. Here is a review of the new Youtube Red, if you haven't already heard about it. http://www.techhive.com/article/299...ffort-yet-at-revamping-its-video-service.html
It sounds like an interesting deal for the right person. I tend to watch shorter, instructional type videos, so I'd probably still be stuck watching ads on those, but it seems entertainment-related companies such as YouTube are looking to make changes, to entice more viewers away from cable companies.
I have the YouTube Channel on my Roku. I just open it and search for free movies. They show without ads..
