Last year two of our daughters sent us gift boxes from Figis. Because of that we got on Figis mailing list and recently got a catalog from them. We've never been a fan of such things but we decided to send some this year. We ordered gift boxes for 7 family members to be delivered for Christmas. Easy, peasy, our Christmas shopping is all but done. An expensive way to buy food, but what the heck. I hope they enjoy them. Have any of you either sent or received such packages?
Ive never heard of this company, Sheldon....looked it up and it looks like they have quite a variety. Will send the link to my son, as he is the big meat eater and even makes his own jerky sometimes. I only send gifts to grandsons though and I dont think they would appreciate food as a gift.
I've always liked both the cheese and the meat from gift packages. Summer sausages, I think they are, always taste better from gift boxes than if I were to simply buy summer sausage in the store.
There is (or was) a Fanny Farmer Breakfast Gift Set that we usually try to give to someone every Holiday. The idea is so that the family will hopefully take a morning to cook a big and different breakfast and be all together. In the past if I could not find the Breakfast pack I would buy separate items. I usually will buy Maple Syrup that was drawn from this region, it is so good and it is not mixed with all the preserves and chemicals. Some flavored coffee perhaps, or some nice tea of some sort is always very nice. Some sort of cake, bread or pancake mix, maybe some Canadian Bacon. I got a recipe a year or so ago from a friend for making these ready soups in a jar, the idea is you put the contents in a crock pot with water or broth and later you have a complete meal. Meatless I would think, but I guess you could add some meat if you wanted. I did manage to find an interesting assortment of meat rubs for my brother about two years ago, he loves to barbeque and really liked that. It was not to terribly expensive but it was different as far as Christmas items go. This year I have found these cast iron pots that you put water in and place them either in your fireplace or on the wood stove to add humidity to the air. They are really cute and since we all use wood in some fashion for heat I think I might get myself and my father one. The steam blows out of the nostrils. There are several different designs. I am thinking at least one gift assortment of candy or nuts, maybe for my cousin, and then the rest I don't really know what I will do yet.
Yes I love Figi's! Swiss Colony has some good ones too. Their petit fours are to die for! LOL Nothing can beat Harry and David though. They have some wonderful cheesecakes!
We got our free sample pack from Figis. We were not impressed. I love cheese and though the samples we got had names of real cheese they weren't the same. The sausage we got was just so,so. I'd much rather go to the grocery and get real cheese and sausages. We got on Figis' mailing list because we received packs from them last year. I didn't remember much about them so we sent gifts to 9 family members this year. My fear now is those we sent them to this year will retaliate next year and send them to us. There's only two of us and if we get nine of those cheese and sausage gifts that we don't really like what will we do with them? Maybe we can move and not leave a forwarding address.
We received a gift box that was fresh fruit, and it has wonderful pears and apples, plus mixed nuts, and chocolate truffles (which magically disappeared in short order). We each had one of the pears, and they were perfect. I think that I much prefer this to the sausage and crackers kind of gift box. However, it seems like a shame to spend so much money when you can just go to the store and bring home fresh fruit, and you never know if the person already has fruit; so I probably would not send this to anyone either, even though we are enjoying it. But the chocolate truffles.........mmmm ! Those were awesome !
I got their catalog a couple years and loved their gift boxes, but it's too expensive for me. I love summer sausages and look for them at Safeway or Walmart. Good gifts if I might say so, Fiji's gift sets to get!
