Recently we were given a Gift Certificate for Afternoon Tea in a popular tourist destination a couple of hours away. I had been to a couple of these at other locations but DH had never been. It was held in a historic building operating primarily now as a Hotel (Inn). The exterior was definitely picture worthy and several others thought so as well. The interior (furnishings, paintings etc.) was really interesting and was maintained, for the most part, in keeping with the era in which it was built. The custom blended tea was exceptional and I bought some to take home. DH was not too impressed with the "tiny" sandwiches, cup cakes etc. but it was enough for a nice afternoon treat. The service was very good and we found the ambiance quite relaxing. IMO it was a very pleasant dining experience although DH said he was not a fan of Afternoon Teas. There was also a lot of other fun and interesting things to do and see in the area so it was definitely worth the day trip.
Are you talking about what's called "high tea"? Ive been to a couple and love them even though I don't like tea. Ive gone with my sisters or my daughter....seems it's not so much fun for men.
Yes, there are things that are basically "just for men" and things "just for the ladies". However, in our marriage, neither exists.
yes very common here... and they range greatly in price of course. Go into the Ritz or the Savoy or any of the top hotels in the city and it's astronomical price, but worth it even once just for the experience..further out here in the rural shires, the prices are not so high...but I prefer to go down to the coast and have an afternoon tea at a hotel or restaurant overlooking the sea...
The ones that I've been to so far, here in Canada, have all been expensive IMO. My daughter is a big fan of AT and will go whenever she can as she finds it to be quite an enjoyable relaxing experience. It does seem to be more of a "Girl's" afternoon out though as there isn't normally too many guys to be seen dining at these places.
Since we lived about 25 miles from Cambridge, UK, we would sometimes head over and walk the City Centre. A couple of times we did Afternoon tea there and my wife really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it also. Course my favorite part came toward the end when the Scones appeared!
@Holly Saunders We lived to the north, in the small village of Somersham. I was stationed at RAF Alconbury.
Oh yes, I know RAF Alconbury, the American non -flying Air base... I have friends who live in Great Stukeley , John Major our ex Prime minister was their neighbour ... We're 70 miles south of Huntingdon... We were based near the end of the 70's, at RAF Uxbridge... although it no longer exists you may know it...it was the home of the Queen's Colour Squadron
RAF Alconbury had lots of TR-1's ( military U-2 planes ) and A-10 Warthog planes when I was stationed there. My job was Rapid Runway Repair and Combat Engineering Instructor. We started our tour at RAF Wethersfield in Essex, till they closed the base. Those postings were the best of my career. We were lucky enough to live in small villages, but still close enough to London by rail.
