“When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in Black and white, you photograph their souls!” ….Ted Grant
I spent a long time trying to see a hornbill. In two years in Eritrea, I never saw one. One of my volunteer colleagues told me that she saw them regularly, but they went into hiding when I visited her a couple of times. I had no joy in Ghana, either and it looked like I was out of luck in Ethiopia as well. Then, on my last weekend in the country, success: Von der Decken's Hornbills. A triumph of perseverance.
OMG! I love this picture! When I first saw it, I laughed out loud! It's so beautiful and something in it makes me wistful. I think it reminds me of my daughter when she was very small. She was like the character Madeleine, "Little on the outside, and big on the inside."
