I never encountered Dukes anywhere but in the South. I haven't been to the East Coast much lately, though.

Hellmann's does, and so does Duke's. Those are the only two I checked, and they both use sugar.

Yep, even some of the recipes now include sugar (2 pinches). The mayo I use does not list sugar as an ingredient and the stuff I make does not contain sugar. I guess adding sugar is now allowed below a certain amount as it permits the use of inferior ingredients and covers up inconsistencies. Sorry. In the old days, only Miracle Whip had sugar, and high fructose corn syrup was not in common use yet as it began to be commonly used as a cheaper sugar during Carter's disastrous administration (due to inflation of the cost of sugar).

Nothing beats a sandwich with bacon and lettuce on wheat bread with Dukes Mayonnaise and tomatoes from your own vine.

Tomatoes on the hoof, as it were.

Well now you can boast that your favorite dressing has taken a new turn @Ken Anderson.
Mayo, Florida has changed it’s name for however long to.....Miracle Whip. Do please observe the link because I didn’t believe it either when I heard of it on the radio but now that I know it’s true, I am sure John Kerry will be proud!

Very well said. But, perchance there was a small spat between the slices of tomato and your choice of bread, would not the more diplomatic choice of John Kerry’s wife’s (owner of Kraft) Miracle Whip be a good solution? :)

No. It would be an insult not to put Duke's mayonnaise on a perfectly good tomato.
