It's December 6th, today, and on this day in 1877, the first recording was made of the human voice. It was Thomas Edison, reciting "Mary had a little lamb". On this date, in 1960, the American League grants Gene Autry a franchise, the Los Angelo's Angels.
It is also St. Nicholas Day in Hungary and some other european countries. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikulás
Our friend, December, has been giving us the cold shoulder, lately...but that's his job, I guess! He tells me that on this date, in 1972, Apollo 17, the last Moon Mission,is launched. The crew takes the photo, known as "The Blue Marble", as they leave the Earth. In 1992, on this date, the Galileo spacecraft passes the North Pole of the Moon (Peary Crater).
On this December Day,in 1998, The FBI opened its files on Frank Sinatra to the public. The file contained 1300 pages. Also in 1998, on this Day in December. the first female ice hockey game in Olympic history was played. Finland beat Sweden, 6-0.
Already the 8th!! I have 10 days til I have to leave again for 2 weeks and being sick for a week put me way behind. I haven't even unpacked from my last trip....actually maybe I'm ahead of the game if I take the same things back.
Today, is December 9th, and on this Day, in 1907, Christmas Seals went on sale for the first time, in the Wilmington Delaware Post Office.
Where was I in 1998? What did the files reveal? Was he part of the Mafia or no? I can't believe I'm just now getting in on this delightful thread. Where have I been in 2015
What did the files reveal? "A memo quoted an informant as saying Sinatra had rented the entire floor of a New Jersey hotel for the party and that "Sinatra enjoys surrounding himself with hoodlums." It said he "would give up his show business prominence to be a hoodlum himself if he had the courage to do so." Another memo described Sinatra as having a "mob complex."
